Engine Question on Code Scanners

    You can read the codes yourself on the '95, just jumper the TE1 and E1 pins at the diagnostic terminal, and then go into the car and turn the key to on. The codes will blink out through the check engine light, like this:

    flash-flash-pause-flash is 21
    flash-pause-flash-flash-flash-flash is 14

    And so on.

    Question on Code Scanners

    My check engine light is on. It turned off today and came back on, and seems to be on for good.

    Now my question is this. I have a 1995 Corolla DX 1.6L 4AFE.
    Does anybody know a scanner out there that can give me the fault code so i can pinpoint what the problem is and also erase the fault when i am done?

    I think that my corolla is not equipped with OBD II, but i could be wrong.

    Any info on this will help.

    it gave me a reading of 17.

    I cant find anywhere what fault code 17 is. Help?

    Yea, I thought so too.

    It blinks 7 times then pauses for about 1 or 2 seconds and blinks 1 time then pauses for about 2 or 3 seconds.

    I dunno if that makes any sense.

    You could also take the car to Advance Auto Parts or Auto Zone and they'll check it for free

    hehe thanks for the site. Ironically i was on that site 5 mins before i got onto vvti lol

    part is pricey....lol

    Dont even know what its purpose on the car is. :(

    AutoZone will only check a car with OB 2 not OBD 1

    It's cool really. Im thinking code 71 is the right code. I will take out the EGR valve and see if it needs cleaning. Throw it in some carbuerator cleaner and see if i can loosen up some carbon residue and put it back in. If that doesnt work, I will see from there.

    Technically I am not too worried about it. Only emissions stuff, and my fuel efficiency is still about the same. Since we have no emissions testing where i live, im not tthhhaaat worried.

    if its an egr valve your better off buying a new one cant really clean them
