Toyota Corolla 03+ Stereo Error Codes...

Anyone got em? I'm getting an 'err 1' on my 04 LE, am/fm cd player.

It'd be nice to have them in a thread.

    TIA.

I'll see if I can look up the codes at work tomorrow...post 'em all if I can that is

uh...might be a cd reading error..just guessing I don't know...don't get to many of those...btw, 2004 should still be under factory warranty...many times that requires a new cdplayer...if it's a stock radio that is...give the dealership a call and ask...they could even prolly tell you what that code is faster than here.

But I'll still try to post 'em any way

Ok, so I've got an '01, but I know that the first thing to troubleshootng is to do things like try multiple CD's, connecting and dis-connecting the unit to see if everything is properly connected and so fourth... what about purchasing an aftermarket head unit... I mean after all, it is an "excuse" to go and get one... list everything that you've tried, then (with any luck) we'll be able to go from there!

That's only in the case of a failed cd error...where it can't read a cd...usually if there is a code then you first read the code and then go from there.

If it saying there is a short or and open then you check wires.

*edit* wattage looks low on the rolla...05 speakers have like...20-70watts...???...yeah...oh well...

I haven't found "err 1" anywhere...this most likely is just telling you there is a code.

I have the "check mode" pdf's as well as the "trouble codes chart" pdf's for 01, 03, and 04. I'm pretty sure they are the same for 03-04, not sure about 01 as the computer based manual has the check mode inst. and the DTC's all in one pdf..while 03 and 04 have them in two seperate pdf files.

I'll post the instructions for 01 and 04 later tonight (I'm still at work now), so email me and I'll send you the files so you can get it before I lengthely type...laters

yeah, i've got the 04 corolla repair manual in pdf form, I really don't know what to make of it, but today I've got some time so I'm gonna fool around and see what code i get.

hopefully it just needs a cleaning.

    heres what i'm talking about_:

    that's a bunch

rpm...you're gonna need the pdf that actually has the codes...that one only gives you the procedure to get the code...I can email that to you if you'de like...

uh....the codes are lengthy and I really don't feel like typing them...and they aren't as simple as DTC's output by the ecu

so here's a brief overview of them

physical address - three digit code which is given to each component

logical address - two digit code which is given to each function

(The pdf file places astriks beside some of the codes...*1-*5...usally when an astrick is placed next to something...it means check the bottom of the page for more info...in the pdf file...the additional info is given right after it gives the physical addy for the radio)

I will say this...these codes seem to be general to ALL audio systems in toyota and not corolla specific...(some of these D codes specify a visual component...which corollas don't have)

    physical addy 190 (radio reciever)
(all of these are for physical address 190 by the way)

    ==============================================

    logical address 01 (communication control)

    DTC
    22 - ram error -
abnormal condition of RAM is detected

    D6 - absence of master -
component in which this code is recorded had been disconnected from the system or master component with the ignition in ACC or ON

    D7 - connection check error -
    (same as D6)

D8 - no response to connection check
component shown by sub code is or had been disonnected from system after engine start

    D9 - last mode error
audio or visual component operated before engine stop is or had been disconnected with ignition switch in ACC or ON

DA - no response to on/off instruction
No response is identified when changing mode (audio and visual mode change). Detected when sound and picture does not change by button operation

    DB - mode status error
    dual alarm is detected

    DC - transmission error
transmission to component shown by auxiliary code has been failed
    (does not mean actual failure)

DD - master reset (momentary interruption) or (MI)-
after engine is started, master component had been disconnected from system

DE - slave reset (MI) -
after engine is started, component shown by sub code had been disconnected from system

E0 -registration completion instruction error -
registration completion instruction command from master cannot be recieved

    E2 - ON/OFF instruction paramater error -
error occures in on/off controlling command from master component

    E3 - registration request transmission -
registration request command is output from component shown by sub code. Receiving connection check instruction, registration request command is output from sub-master component

Probable trouble areas for each of these DTC's under logic address 109

    for code

22 - Replace radio reciever unit
D6 - check the radio reciever unit harness for power and communication
    D7 - same as D6
D8 - the component shown by sub code, check it's harness for connection, power, and communication
    D9 - same as D8
DA - same as D8, also if harness checks out and code occurs again...replace component shown by sub code
    DB - same as D8
DC - if same sub code is recorded in other components, check the harness...check harnesses of all components shown by code
DD - check the following systems harness' for connection, power, and communication---multi-display system, radio reciever assy
if this code occurs frequently replace radio reciever unit
DE - check the harness of the component listed for power and communication
E0 - since this code is provided for engineering purpose, it may be detected when there is no failure
    E2 - replace radio reciever
    E3 - same as E0

    ==============================================

For these the suggestion inspection procedure is given after this --

    logical addy 61 (cassette switch)
    DTC

    40 - mechanical error of media -
malfunction due to mechanical failure, cassette tape is cut or entangled
--inspect tape, if cassette is fine replace reciever unit

    41 - EJECT error -
    malfunction due to mechanical error
    --replace radio reciever unit

42 - tape caught in the radio reciever -
    hub lock etc.
    --replace radio reciever unit

    ==============================================

    Logical addy 62 (cd player)
    DTC

    42 - no disc readout -
    disc cannot be read
--inspect cd if cd is a NORMAL audio cd...not a burned cd
(I have heard that some burned cd's are thicker than normal cd and will cause problems...)
    replace reciever unit

    44 - cd player error -
    error in cd player
    --replace unit

    45 - EJECT error -
    magazine cannot be ejected
    --same as 44

    46 - scratched/reversed disc -
    scratches, dirt, cd upside down
    --check the cd...cause it's a bad cd...

IMO the precheck pdf still isn't very clear on this issue...I've not done this myself...been to busy at work to play around in a rolla. So mess around with it

Maybe tomorrow if I have time...and if I get a rolla radio I can play around and offer more help...as of right now...I am unclear on how the codes are displayed...but that's what's in the pdf...

hey thanks for typing all of that out, i actually have that pdf, sorry.

as for the codes, i tried it out, and it looks like the headunit is gone.

    heres the code it gave:

    p190

    chec(k)

[so i pressed 2 and got this, which i scrolled through using the tune button:]

    1-62

    1-46

[and then this little subcode which i don't know what to make of:]

    1-A2

[Also before i cleared the memory and inserted another disc, the subcode was]

    1-9d

Thanks for all your help. It looks to me like the headunit is done for, since its giving cd scratched errors, after trying a ton of cds.

BTW, got an pics of your CB4?
