Does it leak consistently when it rains? Try adding some weatherstripping around the trunk lid's seal.

'98 Prizm LSi w/ water in trunk

I'm about to buy a low mileage Lsi that is in real good shape except the trunk has had water in the spare tire well for some time (there is a water line). I was woondering if this is common for this body style? I had a 1994 Prizm that leaked, but it was rear ended a couple of times, so I did not think much about it.
I'm just trying to find out if this is a common problem, or something that is unique to wrecked vehicles, or to ones that have had the taillights replaced.
    Thanks
    Jake

I don't know when it leaks, unfortunately. I just drove the car yesterday and that is when I noticed the water mark in the spare tire well.
I did look through some old data on teh 1998 corolla/Prizm, and there was a replacement gasket that was done under warranty for water leaking in the trunk.
I think this has never been left in the rain for very long, the paint is almost perfect, so I am betting the updated gasket was not installed

I had this happen to my 01 corolla and it was because the roof drain hose comming down on the passenger side around the wheel well somehow got knocked out of its drain hole and was just pooring into the trunk, Dig around in the trunk for a little clear hose and if its not aimed outside then thats your problem.

    Me too

Hey I have the 2002 prizm lsi. It did the same thing. Idk how the water got it's wierd. You prolly know this allready but there is a rubber plug under the spare tire that you can pop to get the water out. Matter of fact I'm going to check on it tomorrow and see if there's any water in it again.

My 98 leaks in a hole around the driver's side taillight. I just need to go get some sealant for it.
