kyb gr2's with stock springs

My struts are blown and I want to replace them with kyb gr-2's, and I want to keep the stock springs right now Does anyone know if the ride quality feels as good as stock?

yup, the GR-2 is intended to be a OEM replacement.. for some reason the people around here think its a performance upgrade:confused:

yyeeaahh...i never understood that one. at least it's relatively cheap, so when they blow one they can replace it for a bit less than it would cost to get another Tokico...

I am glad to hear that the ride quailty will be the same, but isn't there a diffrence between the regular KYB's that our corolla come with and the GR-2's.

i think the GR-2's are filled with Gas and the other are filled with something else?

    Thanks for all the replies

the reason peopel think the gr-2's are performance is because the trd package struts that you coould get as an upgrade are kyb gr-2's and their trd springs are eibach..

The GR-2 is filled with low pressure gas, the oem units are filled with oil. One isn't necessarly better than the other as many performance oriented struts comes with either/or, it comes down to fluid dynamics which I don't feel like rambeling on about.

As for TRD, While it is true that KYB does make TRD struts (as well as OEM), it have not been definitively proven that they are indeed valved to GR-2 specs. The TRD's could possibly have a more aggressive valveing.. who knows?

But point being most suspension shops carry KYB GR-2 as factory replacements. One of my buddy's took his 91 camry to a local susp shop to get his struts replaced and they just stuck in some GR-2's. And while doing bodywork on my other buddy's gf's bone stock 93 rolla, we discovered she had GR2's, apparently her parents took it in to get the struts replaced a few yrs back. soo.. KYB GR2 = factory replacements.

01's oem strut is fill with gas too.
gr2 still better handling than oem.
it's like driving a boat with oem struts.

i don't know how it feel with stock spring, but i think it should fit perfectly.
personaly, the difference between gr2 and oem is huge. even though tocico or other performance struts will offer better handling, i would say gr2 is for people who hate boat-like riding experience and wants something stiffer.
