2007 nissan skyline is coming to America??

    Yessssssssss....

    Feburary 2006 Import Tuner Mag.

"With a reputation that many cars would sell their souls for, the Nissan Skyline GT-r has only gotten stronger since its' death..." damn right

"Heavily sculpted with an ultra-agressive modern front end, the GT-R PROTP bears little resemblance to the G35 or 350Z with its massive fender flares, air ducting, and throwback GT-R rear taillights. The numerous openings in the fornt bumper would lead one to believe that hungry intercoolers and oil coolers lurk in hiding. The size of the engine bay seems to point towords a 400hp+ twintubrocharged V-6 engine rather than a naturally aspirated V-8 or inline 6 engine, and Nissan would be foolish to waste all the developement data gained from the twin-turbo VQ engines running in the JGTC Z's. Rumors of all-wheel drive also abound, but we're sure that regardless of what's under the hood, this GT-R PROTO is a clear indication of how the skyline GT-R will look when it appears in 2007. We can only hope they retain the sleek, low-slung bodywork, the rear bumper-exit exhaust and the perfectly matched wheel combo. Unknown is whether the GT-R will appear in the US as a Nissan or Infiniti model, and that placement is sure to affect its price tag and prpularity"

holy shit that took a long time to re-type it on here from the magazine

according to road and track when interviewing the designer, hiroshi hasegawa, the concept is a 90% representation of the finished product.

my issue with the concept is the front grill...

i don't feel it conveys too aggressive an image...
it looks more like a pair of nostrils to a droopy nose.

it may have been better to use the same design as on the lan evo concept - just for the grill treatment, mind you.

This car is gonna kick as...but sadly the skyline heritage is dead. The new models are of the 350z and G35 platforms. As said...they are gonna have the infinity badges...so it really doesn't seem like it should be considered a skyline.

GRANTED it is a powerful powerplant...to me...it just doesn't seem right calling a 350 a skyline. The 350 was brought about to breathe life into to z legacy...and they did. It is really keeping with nissans z car legacy not the skyline legacy.

That's just what I think, it's still gonna be a niiiiice ride all around.

people here are misguided about the skyline and gt-r names...
we have the skyline here in the us... had it for several years with the g35 coupe and sedan. the skyline has always been a basic sedan and sporty coupe in japan. NOTHING SPECIAL

it is the GT-R ALONE that stands as the car everyone has been all tingly about.

and i have said this extensively on the honda boards...

the majority of people who are going to actually BUY this car are not like us...
they have money to spend and are a different demographic...

    also...
think about the american biases/ignorance in this country...
the MAJORITY of this country couldn't think of spending money on a $60,000+ Nissan!
the same reason honda, toyota, and nissan had to launch PREMIUM brands Acura, Lexus, and Infinity.

sure, it's okay to buy a $70,000 corvette Z06 and $80,000 viper even though it's just a chevroletand dodge, but remember what i said about american bias and ignorance?
    exactly...

    just think...
we in the minority can only think of a GT-R as a nissan...
but then that is our bias as well.

How do you figure? When we had the 350z Japan still had the r34...these are two different cars. The Nissan GT-R emblem is sported on a higher tuned version of the skyline, but it is STILL an r34...just a higher tuned version...just like the civic and civic si...SAME CAR...different tuning...one has a hatch the other doesn't that is the most difference as far as the body goes.

The r34 is not the same car as the 350z...the 350z is not a skyline. Yet everyone is calling this new variant of the 350z/g35 chassis a skyline...and it doesn't make any since is what I'm saying. Sure you can call it a skyline but it isn't...If I put a 6cyl engine in my 240sx and tuned the car up I could call it a 300z but it isn't cause it's a different platform. I can put an sr20det in my car...it's still an s13 platform, I could put a v8 in 'er...still an s13 platform. What I'm saying is this new skyline is on the 350z/g35 platform and not the platform used by the r34 and down...and the r34 came from the r33...the r33 came from the r32, and so ont...it came from the 350z, not the skyline. I could be more nitpicky in saying all skylines had inline 6's..so this car not only is a differnt platform...it won't even have the same type of engine. It'll have either the v6 or maybe...MAYBE a v8...doubt it though. It seems more like a marketing ploy to sell a new version of the same platform is all. This new "r35" shouldn't really be considered a skyline per say.

Why don't they just call it a 350z GT-R or G35 GT-R? That would make sense to me.

Quote:

we in the minority can only think of a GT-R as a nissan...
but then that is our bias as well.

Well gt stands for grand touring...and you're very right...there ARE many grand touring models out there...but I don't think there are other cars that specifically sport the nissan GT-R emblem.
But I I see your point on that and you're right.

I dunno...you know maybe it's just the rantings of a purist so if they wanna call this car a skyline then well...what's the point of me arguing it. Just to be clear I know they are calling it a skyline and I'm not trying to refute that and I know it'll be sold here as an infinity and it'll be the same car as what is sold in japan as a skyline...I was just saying I guess that to me...it just doesn't fit the skyline quota you know?

    you're right about that...

but what can companies do in this day and age of platform sharing...
they have to cut costs somewhere...

the benefit of using the same platform in this case is that the performance for the dollar is pretty good...

    yeah...
    being a civic purist myself...
i resented the 7th generation when honda did away with double wishbones at all 4 corners... and the fact the car was moving a long way from what it used to be (an underdog, super fun to drive, hatch)
