Engine whining coming from engine bay...

whining coming from engine bay...

i'm hoping you guys can help me. I have a 98 toyota corolla and lately it has been making a whining sound. I think it has something to do with my steering system or something because the sound will go away whenever i apply start turing the steering wheel. But as soon as i straighten the steering wheel it makes that whining sound. Ohhn the sound is coming from the right hand side of the car (if you are sitting in the car) left side if you are looking under the hood. Sounds like it is coming from the area where all the belts are. Please if you guys can help it would be great. Thanks a million.

Power steering is usually the loudest when you're actively turning the wheel.

Alternators tend to make a bit of a whining noise - my '03 Corolla does...it's louder when it's cold outside, too.

Usually the whinning noise is power steering. Most people have this problem.

checked ur belts lately?

power steering pump for sure. also check and replace belts.

it could also be the water pump.... thats what its doing on mine
