Shifting hard into second gear? help if you can.

I have an 05 rolla xrs, it's only got about 400 miles on it. Now I’ve been being gentle during break in, but I have driven it hard a few times (I can't help myself).

Now my problem is every time I top out first gear and go to shift into second quickly I can never get it in. I don’t really like driving my car hard with it being this new but I've tried it about four times already, and only once was I successful. Every time I do it it just doesn’t go into gear.

When I shift slowly, or if I'm not hitting lift, I have no problem getting it into second (even when I do it pretty fast but with no lift) Third, and fourth I can hit no problem shifting fast and hitting lift.

I’ve driven quite a few standard cars, and the last car I owned for 2 years was a standard. I've never had this problem.

Anyone have any tips for me? Or am I really a bad second gear shifter?

Sounds like you're not letting the revs back down enough to match rpm's for proper synchronization... Maybe you're not releasing the throttle early enough when shifting.
Adding Energy Suspension urethane motor mount inserts would help, as would Amsoil's Severe Gear synthetic gear lube.

yeah it sounds like the synchros in the tranny are preventing you from shifting that way. it's just like dominator said you might have to match the rpms properly. let go off the throttle a bit earlier

I bought an XRS in April and haven't had too many problems shifting into second when it redlines. For me its sometimes 2nd-3rd that sometimes gives me the same problem as yours. I'm not really all that tech savy when it comes to cars but I was thinking it was the synchros as well. Might also be because the shifting is so tight between gears I may just be missing the gear slightly. Just letting you know you're not the only one who's ran into an issue. I drove standards my whole life and never ran into the problem till I bought the XRS.
