    2ZZGE swap into a 98 corolla

I'm found a XRS that was totaled a few days ago in the back. The motor is for sale for like 1500 dollars, so I was thinking of putting it in my 98 Corolla. I saw someone do it...but around 2000 bucks, is it worth it to gain 80 horsepower and a auto/manual conversion? It's the 1.8L VVTi-L engine found in celica GTS's, except with 10 less HP. I don't have enough money to get a new car, but I want to also get some knowledge of swaps (already did a SR20DET alittle bit Xmas last year) before I head off to college.

I'm totally up for it if anyone here knows how to swap Toyota engines. I hear the wiring is a total mess, though.

Particularly around the KY IN area would be appreciated.

I did a little research, and some people told me it won't be worth it to put a 5SPD transmission in. It's best to go for the 6SPD if I want Lift in higher gears. What are you thoughts on this? Is a 5spd worth it for the extra power boost, and I can swap in a 6spd later if I don't like it , or get it all in one bundle for an extra 1000 dollars?

the person that works there is on this forum and on vvt-i.
but for some reason his username slips my mind....
but from what i hear, its worth the money, but the amount of rewiring is insane, just take a look at the pics

yeah it's dr tweak also available through www.northeasterntuners.com. he's real good and his website shows how much he charges for the swaps! oh and i'll definitely go for the 6spd, the 5 spd IMO isnt enough for the 2zz. heck in my 1zz in 5th gear it feels like i need a 6th gear

    I 2nd that (needing a 6th gear). I don't think there is a 5spd that will mate to the 2ZZ-GE engine...never saw a 5spd 2ZZ if there is one.

Dr. Tweak has been talking to me, actually. He said the 6spd would be the way to go too, but that would add another grand to the total. I will only have the car for 3 months, so I will just get it with the 5Spd, hit lift and beat some civics, then go to college and earn some money before coming back, picking up my car for sophomore year, and getting that 6spd swapped in. How's that for a plan?

I would kill for a 60HP gain for a few months before college; it's my only summer that will be worth it!

Just a curious question, do I have to reinforce the frame, or have a roll cage put in?

nah no reinforcement needed unless you're boosting that thing to like 600 hp lol but other than that $1500 for the motor is not bad, does that price include the tranny? cause I've heard that it's a pain to put the 6 spd in our cars but it can be done with the right amount of time and money..... hehe I'd say save up and get the 3SGTE swap hehehe :D

I'm going to do it. PLEASE, if anyone knows anyone that totaled their car (my advanced condolences to them all), and has an engine thats functional or a transmission thats still functional,PM me. I need to get some good prices for this to work out.

2zzge engine - including ECU, wiring harness, oil pan....EVERYTHING.

    6spd manual transmission.

Actually, it doesn't include the transmission,. The transmission is another 700-800 for local shops. MY friend said he'll do the swap for around 600 bucks. So the grand total? 3000 bucks. Transmission needs a few custom mounts cuz it sits a little higher. However, if that doesn't work, I'll settle for a 5spd transmission for 400-500 dollars. Thing is, I won't hit lift everytime I shift out of powerband for at least about .5 of a second. That only takes about .5 seconds tacked on for my 0-60 time, so I'm not too worried.

go for it. make sure u swap over the abs brakes also, that is where your speed sensor takes its reading from. otherwise you wont be able to hit lift.

ABS brakes and lift? Whoa. That adds $$$. What do you mean I won't be able to hit lift? Can you explain :)

I don't really want to alter the brakes....I have no money for that. Hmm.

$3000+ go with your own turbo set up dude and u can gain more than 80 hp on that for sure cause just with a Walbro 255 fuel pump and injectors and you'll be fine to run 10-12 psi on stock internals.... how old and beat up u think ur motor is?

pretty beat. I definitely want a new transmission., I hate auto. Turbo is great and all, but having that 2zzge potential...after a few years i can add a turbo just as easily....it's just no comparison.

I hate auto too, I'm boosting my car and swapping to a 5 spd tranny. Boring out the motor to a 2.0 and stuff so it'll give me great power levels.... the 1zz-fe with right fuel delivery can handle up to 14 psi with stock internals and a bit more with methanol injection

That would be cool, I'll probably head down to a few meets in the east coast with CCC and stuff once the car is done next year, OF COURSE we'll take it to the track cause no street racing for me no way no how.

eh we have our own here in Denver lol there's NO Corolla fans here in Denver but a few of us, some people here in Denver still don't believe that a Corolla can run a 13 possible 12 in the 1/4 with a built 1zz lol but I'm about to prove their ass ohhhh so wrong hehehe

You do that. Once the 2zzge is in, I predict a high 12.

Does anyone have anymore suggestions about precautions, maybe if they had done the swap too?

There are only two documented swaps in the world. Mantis, which is the one I did (link in the second post), and Supershyguy who is 100% tight-lipped about it, he will NOT give any info about the swap. As if there's some big secret to swapping it in....

I only know of one other, who is the guy that used the 5-speed tranny and told me that it bolts right up, and I never confirmed with him that it did work. In fact, maybe I'll try to find his email and hit him up...
