K&N Air Filter turned my check engine light on

I bought a K&N air filter for my 01 Corolla. My check engine light came on and I got a lean code from a dirty MAF caused from the oil on the K&N air filters. I highly do not recommend this filter because it is worth more trouble than it is worth.

the good ol p0171... see this weekly. thats no biggy. simple clean of the air flow sensor will fix it. how is cleaning it every so often more trouble then its worth? just like any modification. there may be drawbacks

never heard? very known problem in the auto business. i have used k&n, S&B, green, ITG and several others. the rolla has only had the k&n for a day so i wouldn't know yet.

on my focus i ran volant, k&n that came with my pro-m maf, ice-man's high flow panel, and pipercross' foam induction (best i've ever used)

    my ranger had s&b
    countour had K&n
now my 05 dakota uses a k&n... on EVERY car i've owned i have had to clean the maf.

usually pepole make mods to thier cars to make a drawfoward not a drawback. kinda defeats the purpose. if your only going back. the goal is to move foward or in this case to move. without any problems JMO :)

How long did you have it in there before you experienced any problems?
