Engine need help

ok i guess i should of just called my source at toyota first before i posted this but i have found the iat on the 03+9 corollas if any cares it is bolted to the throttle body on the front bottom when you open your hood look down at the throttle body and its right there later and thanks guys and gals

i just got one of those speed resistors from ebay call me an idiot but a couple of my freinds bought one and they worked but i need help finding the iat sensor on my intake or would it be called the maf for the corollas 03 corolla s is what i have any assistance is greatly apreciated thanks

There actually IS some validity to these things. Ideally, the resistor will cause the ECU to see a cooler air temp and inject more fuel. However, you have to remember that the O2 sensor is the master control switch for fuel injection duration when you're in closed loop (99% of the time). The ECU will actually undo your mod in a short time.

However, if there were a way to wire it up to a switch so as to turn it on when you wanted a small bit of extra power, then the ECU wouldn't have enough time to correct the a/f ratio and the mod would actually do what it's suppose to do. There HAVE been dyno proven results with this - I'll try to find it Saturday as I'm @ work now.

yeah I had one of those ........ couldn't find where to put it so I tossed it. piece of shee. what is the value of the resistance on those anyway? or what are the color bands on it? or am I a confused idiot and the link is right above me?

It's not a "speed resistor". It's just a resistor. How much did you pay for a resistor in a box?

i know what i got its a resitor its not in a box here is the details uses a resistance value of 3,100 ohms to override the sensor and signal the computer that it is receiving air at an optimal temperature of 53 degrees. and to add to it i only paid $.99 for it so if it dont work so be it its a dollar if it works then ive gained right

here's a tip - you pay to play. this means small amounts of money won't give you anything worthwhile.

As far as a way to wire it up to switch it on when you wanted, you could always buy a potentiometer and install it inside your car giving you the resistance when you need it.

The resistor would get you a 1 degree advance with about 1-2 loss in miles per gallon. Not exactly for daily driving considering you aren't getting much gains from an unmodded 1ZZ. If you want to get this installed and your serious about it why not go all out and find someone that can install a "pot" for the power on demand. It isn't hard to do and anyone with the least bit of knowledge in electronics can put it together.

The IAT sensor is part of the MAF sensor housing on the intake tube. The only thing on the throttle body is the throttle position sensor and you don't wanna be messing with that much.

Go to the 03 Repair manual at the bottom of the page and then go to section 05-031 for IAT sensor. Good stuff.

Told me what you said the part wouldnt make a diff heres the thing i didnt even get to try it couldnt put it on so we will never know.
My freind who put it on his si said it works went for a ride in his car the other night had more pick up in the mid range than before so i dont know it might actually work.

1 - please, PLEASE use punctuation. it makes it much easier for people to read what you're trying to say.
2 - don't bother installing it, unless you really like wasting your time.

ah i forgot to let you guys know our ait sensor is built into the maf so you cat use that lil resitor on the 03 up corolla so it was a loss no big deal it was $0.99 so not a real big loss you cant buy much for a dollar these days

you know, we'll never know if it works unless someone installs it. plus why do you guys like to flame everybody when they have a question or a thought that might seem silly to you. give it a chance it might surprise you. being open minded is a virtue. if he wants to install it and try for a few days then so be it. if it doesn't work then all well! what did you lose from it? nothing. except he lost a few minutes installing it. in fact we gained something. a little bit of knowledge. you'll never know if dont try

but the problem is they HAVE been installed before, and proven a waste of money.

in the case of a situation like this, it might be better to listen to the people who have been around longer.

ok i see what your saying but some people learn differently. no matter how many times their told, they have to do it for themselves just to prove it wrong or right. like he said it was only .99 cents so it wasnt much of a loss. but at least he did the research and saved someone else the trouble of wondering if this thing might work or not. no matter how silly the idea i guarantee someone else will have the same question and because of this we'll be able to tell the person with certainty that it doesn't work.

PRrolla has got a point. Too many jerks forget that they didn't know shit at one point or another either. So now, instead of someone asking if this thing works or not and just being told "its a waste of time you loser", just send em here, then they can find out from someone who was going to do it. either way, need to lighten up, getting your panties in a knot about someone u've never met doing something to their car which you don't own or don't drive. jeeze.
