    new windows updates

ok, windows update now have this update where it verifies/validate if you have a real copy or windows or not. it basically forces it down your throat. if you click no, you dont want to install this update... you can't get the other windows update. is there a way of getting around this??

    Paste

    java_script_:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all')

into your address bar and hit enter before pressing the express or custom buttons. (remove the _ after "java" and after "script")

    what does this do?

i read somewhere that if you don't have sp2 for xp, you won't be able to get updates anymore. something like by 2006 or 2007, microsoft will install sp2 whether you like it or not.

It will disable the annoying verification check.

There is a far simpler way to do this with out any mods or pasting the javascript in evey time.
All you have to do is go to tools, manage add-ons, click on windows genuine advantage, and then under settings, click on disable. Then click ok. The browser will refresh and then you can download the windows updates.

Oh and you have to be in the windows update page otherwise you wont be able to see the windows genuine advantage ad-in.

It should eb right under pop-up blocker. I'm using IE 6.0. by the way. If you are using an older version of IE you may not have that option.

And for those that use firefox.
Windows update in Firefox, yes it is possible.

One of my friends had the same problem after i posted.

You have to have service pack 2 in windows xp to get the Manage Add Ons option.
