well you can start by advancing the valve timing a bit. that should give you a bit more torque... or you could retard the timing for a bit more top end speed... it's a very simple matter of loosening the distributor assembly and rotating it either way... you have to do this wit the engine running and revving because you have to watch out for valve chatter. if you hear valve chatter, you've advanced or retarded it too much.

it's not really a modification... more like a tweak.

Thanks for all the complements guys.

Naa, shes not into modding her car. Most (more like all) of the time when ever I talk about cars she just ignores me, or at least pretends to pay attention to amuse me...

Yeah, my wife talked me into getting the extended platinum warranty, which is actually really nice, so no modding for a loooooong time. By the way, is there a list of stuff (if any) that I can do that will not void my warranty?

    *excuse the noobieness*

That only applies to old school cars with distributors. The XRS has independent coils on each sparkplug that is electronically controlled.

I say keep it stock, and if anything maybe drop it with Eibach struts and get better handling tires with lighter wheels. The XRS is already fun as is.

    Congratulations!

hmmmm... then how did... never mind... i'll find out how my friend advanced the timing on his '05 'rolla. it's not an XRS though... we don't get that variant here in the philippines... but the XRS still runs the regular 1ZZ-FE right? nothing special about the engine? it's just the strut bar, rims, and body kit that sets it apart from the regular corolla/altis?

No, the XRS uses the 2ZZ-GE (VVTL-i), the same engine found in the Celica GT-S and Matrix XRS here in the US. Only difference from the Celica and Matrix is how they tuned it for the corolla. IMO it's special =D.

Here's a site you can go to if you want to learn about some of the engine's in the US.

In the US, corollas have had coil packs (distributorless ignition) since 2000.

Thanks guys for all the advice. It really is a great car. There doesn't seem to be much of an aftermarket for the XRS though.... But I don't plan on modding the car anytime soon anyway (looooooooong warranty) but it's always fun to look stuff like that up and dream...

ooooh! sweet! damn you guys are lucky... wonder why they don't sell variants like the XRS here... more importantly... i wonder if the 2zzge will fit into the ae111's engine bay! time to go surplus hunting!
