probably, clean air filter, dun turn on a/c(if u hav at it), dun gas and brake all the time, don't floor it, spark plugs and wires, voltage stabilizer and grounding kit, tire pressure, i guess exhaust would help i dunno

Not really. My 92 corolla gets around 22 mpg on a good day. It should be getting at least 30 if not higher on the highway at least. Have any suggestions on what i should do to have better gas mileage. And no i do not rag on it!

I got an alignment recently and my highway mileage went up noticeably-- the toe-in was way off for one....

Check your spark plugs-- they give a good picture of the health of the engine. They may tell you you are running rich, which could mean the oxygen sensor is malfunctioning. They may indicate poor oil control and the reduced compression that often accompanies it.

A poor fuel injector spray pattern, or an injector stuck partially open, can also cause this (but also would result in drivability problems.)

Are there any vacuum leaks (usually you can hear them), or are the brakes dragging?
Any drivability issues?

Get a rag and wipe out a section of the inside of your exhaust pipe, drive around for a day, and rewipe it-- is the inside of the pipe already grimy with exhaust residues? That could also show a rich condition, and possibly some oil control issues...

22mpg in a rolla damn, I had a 1990 that got 31mpg average, my recently sold 02 got 36-38 ave, my new lexus I average 19-20mpg so dont feel so bad(and to get the milage i have to baby it under 1300 rpm on the street and under 2100rpm on the freeway). I spent 56 bucks filling the LS's tank 2 days ago.

What I would change in order of importance is.

Air filter $12 at pep boys
Tuneup (basically spark plugs and set the timing) $40 at local shops
or spark plugs for $6 from pepboys or autozone
Remove any junk you dont need from the trunk and interior, Ie laptop bag, school books, the club that you lost the key 5 years ago too.
Get some cheap fuel additive, goto the 99c store and get the injector cleaner pick up 3-4 bottles of it, run 1 per tank for the next few tanks. This stuff is basically made from deisel fuel and tranny fluid. It supposed to eat away buildup kinda like draino.

This all will cost you maybe 23-57 bucks and will probably yield you 4-5 more mpg depending on how bad your timing and plugs were, if you change the plugs yourself and still have bad milage the go get your timing set for about 25-30 bucks.

If after all that you still dont get ok milage then get your tranny fluid changed out, have your brakes inspected, make sure they arent rubbing while you drive, replace your fuel filter. Changing the tranny fluid with a decent fluid can yield a decent gain in performance and milage, not crazy improvments, but smoother shifts and maybe + .5-1 mpg on your average. Check all your lines and vaccum connections in and around or coming from the intake manifold. Although this wont net a milage increase its probably been neglected, change out your pcv valve for about $6-$8 at your local autoparts shop.Helps with emissions.

If you have to go this far and still your milage doesnt increase, get a compression check done, also a good way to tell if your cat is bad or if your dumping fuel is go and for like 30-40 bucks get a smog check at a smog only station, this will give your carbon dioxide levels, o2 levels, hydro carbon levels ect... which will let you know if your O2 sensor is bad or if your cats are bad, or if your injectors are spraying too much during a cycle.

I have replaced the entire intake and it has a new filter. I am going to try the fuel injector or even fuel system cleaner today.

A full intake and exhaust system will net a great increase, when I had intake and exhuast on my 02 rolla I could get 40 mpg on an auto by babying the throttle on the freeway, but the problem is that when you have an intake , or exhaust you naturally push the car just a little bit harder. If i was driving with I/E I would almost 100% tend to push the car harder.

Problem now is if I push the LS4 I tend to get 14-15mpg ouchhhyy

I tried the fuel system cleaner and the car's accelleration went up quite a bit but the mpg went up to 25mpg so this week i guess i will see what do I do next.

U guys are lucky. I get 180-200 miles per tank but my engine is not stock.Lots of mods on it/in it

before the s/c i got around 40-45 now im getting 31-34 in my 03 rolla... still not bad but noticeable different from b4 the s/c

hrmmm.. damn dude.. just like stated before, change your air filter (or replace with an exhaust). get some seafoam (its available at Napa), unhook your vacuum hose from your brake booster and poor 1 3rd of a can of that stuff in, very slowly. you're motor will bog down harder the faster u poor it in. u'll need a small funnel too. all the nasty smoke that'll come out of ur exhaust afterwards, that'll be the ish thats draining ur horsepower. once u've poored in a 3rd of a can, let it run for a little bit, u can give it some gas, hold it between 2k-2500 RPM. also, poor, i think it's either 1/2 or a whole can of that stuff into ur gas tank, whatever the label says. i'd unhook ur intake from your throttle body and if it looks dirty, clean it with some throttle body cleaner. after all this, now do your tune it. change your plugs (go with NGK or u risk burning up your plugs way too fast), wires, adjust your timing accordingly. it'll help ur baby run like new.
and yes, the I/E helps mileage, but it tends to lead to a heavier foot. my wife isn't affected by it and she averages 2-5 MPG MORE than I did when I drove it. then again she does that with my impala too (i get between 18-21 MPG in town)...
anyways, hope u get that fixed..

one last word of caution. using that seafoam, if there's enough stuff inside your engine, it may end up damaging your 02 sensor. I didn't have any issues with mine (and i blew out enough smoke to bring the fire department out), thats just a word of warning i've heard. and don't worry, its normal for it to be blowing smoke for up to a couple of hours afterwards, but not likely...

Definitely do the Sea Foam -- the stuff is great... Although usually I'm dubious of testimonials of crap in cans to fix up your engine-- Sea Foam is different. It works.

There's also BG 44K-- sometimes that's hard to find.
