    fastbrakes.com rear disk conversion

Sounds like we wont be getting that rear disk conversion from fastbrakes for the 98-02 corollas. I emailed them to check the status of the project and this is what they said:

I tried to make the conversion but ran into parts supply problems. Seems no one makes the parts I can easily use for the kit, and custom cables, calipers, etc make the costs too high to sell for what I consider a good price...

This was from Brian Hasty by the way.

Sounds good to me. How is the install job like for your kit, my skills are very minimal btw. How much do you think it will cost to have the kit installed by a professional?

Well it shouldn't take more that a couple hours at most, it bolts right on. You don't need to remove the knuckle or anything... the hardest part is bleeding the brakes

Get somebody that knows how and spend a Saturday or Sunday doing your brakes or his/her brakes, or find some willing victim that needs their brakes done. It's simple once you know how and everybody with a car should learn. There are writeups all over the internet; it really doesn't matter which car it's for, it's pretty much all the same.

    Here, check this one out:

Thanks for the info scrotarolla. $500 shipped for rear disk brakes huh. That sounds so tempting, I just might have to get these but first I need to get some rims and tires.

Isnt the volume of the rear conversions calipers higher than that of the drums, wouldnt you need a larger brake fluid resevoir to keep the pressure good. Seems like after the conversion your peddle would feel less solid and that the clamping force probably wouldnt be as great as stock. It also changes the braking bias. Seems like a show only mod that shoud be done purely for astetics to me.

it pretty much is..but the metering and propotioning valve to take car of it though. but probably the stopping distant might be changed also.

It could on other cars, but with these little calipers I doubt there would be any difference in pressure. Even so, braking will be better than with drums. I'm not sure how sensitive the prop. valve is on a Toy, but if you want to lock up the rear and still have the fronts rolling and steering without ABS you can just remove an O-ring.

Sure, it's purely aesthetic in the sense that your body will still be intact after that emergency maneuver you crapped your pants over!

My pedal is fine when braking. I nabbed a propotioning valve off a 90's Celica with 4 disc brakes. I still have to install it, but I have noticed that the rear pads are wearing out fast with the stock proportioning vavle since the rear engages before the front on drum setups.

The only reason why the pedal would be spongy is if you had air in the system, caused by a leak or by not bleeding properly.

BTW - $500 is pretty reasonable for a kit since (if) you can find all the parts for less, but you still have to consider the time and BS. I'm doing a disc conversion on a Ford rear axle (lucky me) and it's been a bitch just finding the correct pads for the right calipers and the wrong rotors for the correct spindle depth and E-brake pads...

    ...stupid Fords!!!
