    stereotypes in the car "scene"

have you folks noticed the stereotypes that exist among the types of car people out there?

    let me explain:

import people all see women as nothing but stupid hoodrats, while domestic folks don't want women to "hurt themselves" on their tools...

domestic guys have "big egos to fit large displacement cars, and to hide their lack of genitalia," while import folks are "dumb street racers."

furthermore, do you think the people being stereotyped earn the stereotypes they've been given? do YOU feel like you've been slapped with a car-related stereotype? why do you feel that way?

i see a lot of this going around lately - wanted to know your take on it.

cross posted to the import-related forums i frequent.

~please understand the above statements are generalizations, and are merely meant to start conversation. i don't agree with any of it.~

i do see that sometimes. It really depends on the crowd though. Some domestic guys are the typical import-hating assholes, and vice versa. Some of both crowd have rightfully earned their reputations but, as with anything, there are always exceptions to the rule.

I don't ever seem to get slapped particularly with a stereotype, I just get the same thing all of us get with the "why are you modding a corolla?" questions. To which I answer, because I fucking want to lol.

^ Agreed, and one of the biggest issues is trying to find a way to get traction without breaking things.

for instance it is easy to make a v8 car with 300hp stock to run 10 second q-miles few minor bolt-ons and your close, it takes balls to make a car with half that hp to run that same time

i get a lot of looks like, what the hell is that, but it does not bother me. i just let that kind of stuff go because i didnt do this stuff to my car to please the world, i did it to please my self, and thats all that matters.

i blame everything on "the fast and the furious". they made sport compact cars stand out. before it was just another car with shinny wheels, but now its "one of those fast and furious cars".

its fun to give those v8's a scare. i was at a test and tune (this was when i had a 94 prizm) and got put with a chevy truck. we took off and i stayed just behind the truck the whole time (would have done better if i wasnt sleeping at the line). the driver was looking over his shoulder more than he was looking forward, he couldnt believe that this little car was keeping up. that kind of stuff makes me laught.

it takes a lot more time, money, and fine tuning than you think. most of the time they get hung up at 12/11 sec...and can't figure out how to get past it without nitrous.

    hmmm stereotypes...

    1. back when i had my corolla some ppl thought every mod i did to my car was my attempt to be more "jdm" which was never the case. i am proud to say i never called anything on my car jdm.

    2. because im asian, i have hook ups to everything import car related.

    3. i love car shows. (i dont like them)

    4. because my car was fixed up, it had to have NOS. *thanks fast and furious u evil piece of crap*

    5. ppl thought i slanged (sold drugs) to get money to put into my car. probably cuz i was asian too.

*kinda off topic but i been noticing it at work*
    6. i love boba and can tell u the chemical makeup of those tiny balls at the bottom of ur drink.
