man that must have really sucked ass. I personally could not have sat there and videotaped my car burning like that. I realize it's probably some great evidence if the insurance company tries to screw you but I still would be too fucked up watchin that shit to be carefully videotaping it like a documentary or something.

Sucks. That WAS a nice car. I like GTI's. If I could afford a 1.8T GTI, I'd be rockin it. Nice cars.

    That really sucks...

What I find ironic about this is all those ricers who drive around with fire extinguishers on their A-pillars, but with all the money this guy spent on his car (looked pretty nice), he didn't have one with him. It seems like if that fire was stopped early on when it was in the back of the engine bay, it wouldn't have been a big loss. I roll with an extinguisher in the trunk of my Corolla, for either my car, or .. you know, just in case. I brought one with me on the maiden voyage of my rebuilt All Trac, too... with turbos, shit just get so hot. That's a shame, though.

Ya should always have an extinguisher, no matter what car you drive. My wife was 8 months pregnant and leaving her doctors office. She turned the key, and nothing happened. Then she smelled smoke. I had JUST pulled away, and she called me. I threw it in reverse, and by the time I got back to the car, her entire steering column was on fire. I grabbed the extinguisher and put it out before the car went up. (That was my mistake)

They'll probably tell him that the fire started because he modified the car (which is probably true) and he won't get a dime....

The lesson is, if you're going to mess with auto wiring, know what you're doing. The owner of the AE92 that I'm working on right now did a ton of wiring on his own and some of it is just scary.

    Good thing for insurance...

No need to be sorry on that one. The turbo isnt in the front of the car. In the 1.8T, the turbo is exactly where that fire is occuring. Just a little more under. In fact, if you want a really good glimpse of the K03/K03Sport turbo, put the car on the lift and you'll get a really good look at it.

    I had to do all of this. I have a 02 Jetta 1.8 with a K04.

From the angle of the video, it seems like its closer to the fire wall than the turbo...turbo is lower, and almost to the mid engine, at least on the passat setup
