    suspension problem

Ok, here's my story and I want your opinion:

Wife had brakes done on her rav4 at 85k miles. While they had it up on the lift, they decided it needed a new timing belt and new shocks/struts.. Fine, $1k for everything, hasn't had any maintenance other than tires/oil changes/airfilter. Rides great for a week, then start squeaking pretty badly about a week later everytime you stop or accellerate (body shifting basically). goes away for a few days, comes back. I bring it in, they think the bushing on the shocks are bad, but they lube it to see if it helps. doesn't, bring it back in, they replace the shocks, still squeaks. They lube it some more hoping it'll go away.. I'm now going to have to bring it in a 3rd time so they can remove as many as 32 bushings to see which one is bad? where are these bushings they speak of and why is it so hard to figure out? Is it possible that since I didn't replace the shocks at 60k miles that it might have been the cause of the bad bushing (like it got frozen, but once the new shocks got installed it worked itself loose)? should I be upset at them or is this normal?

alright here's the verdict. they had it up on the lift (after figuring it out for 7-8 hours). turns out there's a bracket on each shock that was rubbing against the linkage on the suspension (which now has a notch in it, but not structurally damaged). they claim it was like finding a needle in the haystack "bullshit, if I was a mechanic I'd have one guy pulling on the back to bounce it and look around to see if anything is rubbing". They even asked if it had been in a rear-end collision "ya think? not hard to figure out when a vehicle is damaged". they tried blaming it on the accident even though it didn't squeak for a year, and then started to as soon as I get the shocks replaced? word of caution, avoid purcell brothers like the plague. I could do a better job of being a mechanic than those guys that took classes. Had to take the truck in 3 times before they figured out the problem.

Needless to say, I'm gonna go out and buy a chilton manual to see if it says anything like "make sure when you mount the bracket for the shock, that it's rotated properly so it doesn't rub against this linkage here" and shove it in their faces.. I really don't like it when someone tries to take me for a ride because I don't know better.
