i should find out by the end of this week. the insurance company (state farm) said they have a lot of adjustors running around this week because of the long weekend we had. hopefully they can get to my car soon and let me know what they are going to do.

    corolla no more...

    =(

    http://www.tekmoe.com/wreck/

happened when i was driving down to austin earlier this week. traffic suddenly stopped, i began to brake, and the woman behind me was probably not paying attention, smacking me into the person in front of me. needless to say, i am really depressed about the whole thing. i am going to get a rental car later after work.

i came out of the accident with a sore neck. thank god nothing else happened to me, or any of the other drivers.

    stay safe out there.

it doesn't look like a total loss to me. seems no frame no engine damage, just front smashed in. but then again, until a professional take a look @ it... anything is possible. but whatever comes out from it, i do wish you the best. sorry for your lost and hope everything works out.

sucks man - but it doesn't look like too much damage. looks like a new hood, bumper, and corner lens and you'll be good to go.

right after the wreck occurred, all the radiator fluid leaked out. i also noticed the intake manifold pipes were bent up towards the front of the engine, so i am pretty sure that will need to be replaced as well. other than that, i was too shook up to take a good note on what was damaged. i got a rental car earlier tonight...a dodge stratus... :(

It looks like that whole beam behind the radiator has been pushed in...same thing happend when I ran into another car. Only the driver's side corners though....I just took a big rubber mallet and hammered it all straight then replaced the hood, bumper, fender and headlamp...Good as new. In your case though, for coolant to leak out I'm guessing one of the beams has been bent into your radiator. If what your saying is true about the intake manifold, that's partial engine damage. A chance it could be claimed as a loss.

well folks, state farm has decided to fix it. i have a list of all the stuff they want to replace. the 3 big ones are the throttle body ($897), radiator, and a/c condensor.

the radiator and a/c condensor, they want to use "quality replacement parts." i do not like this. i want OEM, as that is what was in my car BEFORE the accident. and i was not to blame for this accident, so i expect my car to be put back to the same exact condition as it was before.

i am also going to have to battle state farm for the diminshed value of the vehicle.

other than that, i am doing ok. just a lot of stress.

can anyone find out what an oem radiator and oem a/c condensor would cost for a 2002 corolla ce? i am trying to find the cheapest price, rather than purchase it thru the toyota dealer that my car is being worked at.

    thanks!

    wait wait wait.

state farm is YOUR insurance, or HERS?

if it's HERS, then they should be doing what YOU want them to...you should be allowed to take the car where YOU want to take it to get it done. if its YOURS, then why isn't her insurance covering it?

    state farm is hers.

her is the short story converted from the long story...

i was driving to new braunfels, texas. as i was driving thru austin, texas, which is 50 miles from new bruanfels, the woman who caused the accident, hit me from behind and caused me to smash into the person in front of me. her insurance is state farm.

here is another question for all of you...would you want OEM parts installed into your corolla, or would you want "quality replacement parts" which is what state farm is going to pay to have installed into my corolla? "quality replacement parts" could have more than one definition...refurb, used, aftermarket, etc...

    opinions asap please!!!

thank you all so much the for the replies.

    ahhh...i see.

well, at least she didn't have crappy insurance...

and by the way, EVERY body shop uses OEM replacement stuff. i don't know of any that don't. just request new stuff instead of junkyard pulls...you'll be fine.

if your insurance didn't had an adjuster guy came out to look @ your car.... but toyota did and made an adjustment sheet. you might can get your nice toyota dealership (IF they are nice and kind) to re-adjust the sheet with OEM parts and sent it to your insurance.

from what i understand... your insurance can't tie you down to a perticular shop. you should shop around local town body shops see what they says (of course, it'll be pain to have your car tow around).

when i crashed my 03 spec v the repaired came up to $11,700-ish w/o labor plus frame bent... now that hurt! still miss that car...

falnfenix, i wish it were that easy...

i've been battling with state farm over this very issue. they insist that the "quality replacement parts" that will be used in my car are of equal quality compared to my OEM parts. i told them "no, i want you guys to install OEM parts, and nothing else." but they insist that they cannot install a brand new OEM radiator and a/c condensor into my car because right before the wreck occurred, the parts in my car were not brand new either. the law states they have to put my car back to the same condition my car was in before the wreck...so i don't know how i can win that one.

i'd hate to pay an attorney for this crap because if i buy a brand new OEM radiator and a/c condensor out of my own pocket, it's only about 190 dollars. i still don't think i should have to pay it though... =(

see...i don't see the difference. maybe it's because i work in a service center, and i see GM parts versus oem replacements...and yknow, they look/perform the same. insurance companies WILL get the cheapest parts available. that's their way.

i guess i just don't see why you're so hyped about getting OEM parts. take it to a Toyota dealership and have their people replace it...that's the only way you're going to guarantee getting toyota stuff.

my car is at a toyota dealership being repaired.

i don't know, i just think since my car had OEM parts before the wreck, it should have OEM parts after the wreck.

i hate dealing with insurance companies.

i hope i get a good diminished value check out of this whole ordeal...

were you aware that half the time TOYOTA doesn't use toyota parts? i've found offbrand parts on my car after bringing it home from Toyota.

furthermore, many parts are interchangeable - you pay more because TOYOTA made them. whoopee - they're the same quality as OEM replacement parts. i'm just trying to make you aware of that.
