    Wtf

okay, I was driving today and all of a sudden my seatbelt light came on and started blinking. I had the seatbelt on the whole time. So I parked the car and took off then put it back on, the light still blinks. I pull some more on the seatbelt and it went off. When I released the tension, it came back on. All of a sudden it turned off. I thought that was odd, but I went ahead and did my business. I cam back, start the car and no seatbelt light when I did not have it on. I got home and took off the belt, still no warning light. Now when I pull some more on the belt, light comes on. When I release the seatbelt, light comes off. WTF!!!! does anybody know what the hell's wrong with this POS. Do I need to take it back to the dealer or should I have a different mechanic to look at it?

Wish I had an answer..my 99 did that for about 3 years and never went off.. Toyota said they'd need the car the entire day for diagnostics and they wouldn't give me a loaner..

friend's dad is a master toyota mechanic....same thing happens in my 98. he said it's not a big deal and he could fix it in 5 minutes, its just disabling that indicator. it doesnt mean your seatbelt is malfunctioning; to check, just pull your seatbelt really hard and if it locks its working fine.

i assume you've checked your fluid level for brake fluid...and i assume you've checked all your shoes/pads(including park/ebrake shoes).

if you haven't, i recommend checking those. if you HAVE, then your car is insane. :)

whoa! why would those have anything to do with seatbelt? Anyways the light just stays off now unless I pull a long slack of the seatbelt then it comes on but won't turn off when you plug in the seatbelt. I do agree with you on one thing.....My car is freaking insane.

what in the world does the brake fluid level, pads, shoes got to do with the seatbelt light going on and off??? :(
it's not the parking brake light that's going on/off.

i believe your problem is the switch that turns on/off that light. it's screwed.
as long as your belt locks, then you're ok. the light is just a reminder for you to wear your belt.
