you obviously don't know much about muscle cars. yes the evo is a sweet car and it is quick... but it is far from being the end-all, be-all of performance. Hell, a STOCK 03 cobra will destroy it in the 1/4 mile - not even talking about corvettes or old-school REAL muscle cars.

Compare a stock evo to a stock 68 Chevelle SS and you'll see what a "sissy V8" with a "sissy 400+ ft/lbs of torque" can do lol.

thats not true they tested the new cobra vs STI stock for stock in car and driver, very close race everytime but almost consistanly the STI beat it by a couple of .01's of a second...not to mention that the evo in a strait line is faster than an STI

I am not signing up to read that, but when Top Gear tested the EVO MR, Clarkson stalled it a number of times.

2003 Ford Mustang Cobra SVT 0-60 = 4.5 1/4 mile = 12.9

Iv'e never seen a stock STI that fast, but since im sure youll just argue, i'll post the numbers on the STI as well.

2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi 0-60 = 5.1 1/4 mile = 13.8

and the evo

2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII 0-60 = 4.8 1/4 mile 13.4

yep, STI and EVO are quicker than a cobra for sure

1/4 miles times vary.. when u get down to counting 10ths of seconds or less, it usually comes from the driver..

also.. STi may have more power etc., but the Evo is still quicker.. HP doesn't automatically garuantee speed..

for instance....
MOPAR Neon vs. Ligenfelter Corvette (when the originally released the TT 427 CID version w/ right at 1k horsepower)
Both cars have very similiar horsepower. the Neon may be lighter true, but its also specifically designed for the drag strip.. the corvette ran a 9.99 in the 1/4 (the described it as.... being at a stand still and being rear-ended by a garbage truck going 60 MPH)... I forget the times the Neon can make, but it can beat that 10 second mark for sure (Turbo charged I-4 with a (as i remember) dual stage direct inject wet nitrous system).. Horsepower and weight play a role, but so does gearing is what i'm coming down too.. the STi and EVO are geared differently.. hence the EVO's advantage in handling..

As for muscle car haters.. Tuners are just the reincarnation of the gear heads from the 60's and 70's, who were rocking SS's and Mach 1's, Boss's and cobra's, where an engine size was spelled out in cubic inch, not liters of displacement..

one fact u can't argue, and u can never argue, is the difference in potential horsepower between 4 bangers and v8's.. No matter what u do, a V8 has 4 more cylinders to do it with.. true, what u do to get the most bang out of ur buck is gonna be different between the two... but i dunno many 4 cylinders who can run 600-800 HP and still maintain street legality.. back to my corvette featurette again that passed the sniffer (of course every state has their own set of laws and rules) in texas.. true, it was a 7.0 liter 427 C.I.D. corvette C5R Motor with a twin turbo set up, that run along the lines of $100k... but it was running right at 1000 HP, and could still be streetable and street legal...

ok, i'ma start rambling and try to get some sleep now...

i wonder if youll fool anyone..... quantity doesnt always equal quality, as your post proves.
and the words "fast" and "quick" describe two different worlds
and a 9.99 with 1k horses just isnt that impressive andymore, can you tell us a trap speed?
also, when did gearing start to affect handling? i always thought it had to do with vehicle dynamics like suspension, weight distribution, and overall vehicle weight.

and to the new guy "bobfook" where did you source all those numbers from, your post is the first that ive ever heard a stock evo outrunning a stock sti.....

From a pretty recent Motor Trend issue, where they compares a 2005 Subaru WRX STi vs. a Mitsubishi Evolution MR

Mitsubishi Evolution MR
0-60 MPH - 4.7 s
1/4 Mile - 13.3 s @ 102.2 MPH

Subaru WRX STi
0-60 mph - 4.7 s
1/4 Mile - 13.3 s @ 101.1 mph

Near identical times for both...

2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra (the 390hp Supercharged one) (From a 2003 Motor Trend issue, only one I could find fast for the 4.6 s/c one)
0-60 mph - 4.9 s
1/4 Mile - 13.1 s @ 109.6 mph

So it looks like the Evo/STi would both lose to it in a 1/4 mile (equal drivers, etc.)... but still, the Evo and STi are impressive for a 4 cylinder engine, but damn, a v8 (and torque) is fun too...

all i can say that the evo8 is faster and lighter than the sti because the sti engine is a 2.4liter and thats one heavy ass engine compare to the evo8 2.0 and the hood and fender is fiberglass so thats make advantage and for the sti i dont really know there specs but i know that sti cars are heavier than the evo8.muscle car are gay...import cars taking over the streets.

Well, the STi is a 2.5 Liter... and just because it has a slightly higher displacement doesn't mean it is a heavier engine... and muscle cars are not gay, hell, i it wasn't for muscle cars, some of the technology we enjoy on our sport compacts wouldn't be around (NO2 systems for one, and all the technology related knowledge gained from people who started working on muscle cars in the 60s and you could argue earlier too)...

now just imagine if a car comoany would actually use the technology from an evo or sti and use it in a muscle car engine. no more of this pushrod crap. DOHC VVT Turbo V8 from that factory... now thats what i wanna see before ill get excited about a muscle car... i give ford props at least the mustangs have OHC engines.
