    FastRolla96...sad day for Corolla

Apparently, he had been trying to call me most of the day but I was at work....when I got off, I realized I have a couple missed calls from him so I called him back.....first thing he says is...

    "Dude, my car is dead...."

    "WHAT?!?!"

"Yea dude, I blew my engine....i steered it off of the highway and into a parking lot.....right now im driving my dad's car to school.....man, now I either have to get a new engine or a new car......i'll call you back later"

Hopefully ill find out more details....either that, or he'll just post more about it himself.....

that sucks to hear that. He had just gotten some cool stuff for the car too...

What better excuse to do an engine swap than the current motor dieing(sp?) :burnout:

kinda curious what makes him think he blew the motor...... ie, threw a rod? or did it just die? (which could be as simple as a bad alternator which killed the battery, or just an ignitor that went out)......

in any case, if he did throw a rod then i would suggest picking up a smallport

depends on what he can afford; if you can deal with a payment, get a nice 'young' car you can really enjoy with a little power.

Well here's the full scoop. Lately my car has been eating up oil really bad and had to add quart every 3 weeks or so. I thought it was a leaking gasket or something internal was cracked causing the oil to get burnt up. Just yesterday I got enough money to get my car problems fixed like new tires, axles, exhaust, and bearings. Well today I was suppose to get all those ordered and check out all the minor wear and tear problems my car had for having such a high mileage. This morning I was going home from seeing my GF from her school and I was at the highway. The car starting to make clinging noises. I thought it was my exhaust cause lately it has been leaking and hanging down at the downpipe arear around the cat because of speedbump problems my girl drove it to. Well the clinging got worse then a big bang and a crap load of smoke came out and could barely see the road. I coasted to the nearest exit and left the car their from 10am and just right now at 7pm got toed.

I know the pistons and rods are gone and also the bottom end cause all the oil leaked out of it from a big crack. My options are spend 4 grand for a new transplant which my parents are willing to help and I can pay off later or get my mom's 2002 black corolla S and start a new project. Starting a new car project would be nice, but I was getting close to finishing this car. When I got the car toed the front bumper cracked alot more and I had to rip of the grills to loop the chains on the toe hooks. Even though I raised the car back up the car still had a really hard time getting up on the toe truck. What would you guys do? Newer corolla or chance of a 20v, but I still can't change the tranny cause money is only enough for the engine cause I still need other money for fixing the messed up cosmetic part of the car. I need to make it back to perfect condition so I can take it to HIN, but the way its turning out I don't know.

20V would be a more fun project than Corolla S in my opinion.

man... if you really love fixing on the little things like your front valance and the grill etc, then keep it but if you want to just relax and have something to drive without worry and hassle just let all the modding go. a lot of times it is just too impractical and even annoying to deal with, make sure you make the decision that will make You Happy in the long run. If you like to work on it, then definitely keep it and make your dream come true, if not, do what you truly want to .

Ya, I must agree with you guys. I like this car too much and has served me very well. I'm gonna do more research on parts and go to the shop tomorrow and ask them for an estimate for how much its all gonna cost. If it turns out well I just might have a 20v within a month or less. As for my replacement car, I'm using my dad's Lexus RX300 for transportation. Its hefty and has power, but can't weave through traffic or turn at all.

too bad you don't live near here..... i could probably find you a 1/2 cut & then me do the labor (including a "new" tranny, with the 1/2 cut of course) for less than $3,000.....

if you can't do the work yourself, then find a shop that knows what they are doing and don't charge a lot - you should be out the door cheaper than you expect..... silvertops are pretty cheap..... though, for cost/performance you would be better with a 4agze.... TRUST me.... my smallport 4age ae92 has outrun a silvertop 20V celica and my ae92 has nothing on my ae101 4agze powered mr2

JDM 4A-GZE hav more hp than the old 4AGZE powering MK1 mr2... best swap is definitely 3SGTE but $$ is the key to that swap though... but i think is which way u are planning to go for ALL MOTOR or FORCE INDUCTION... if it is all motor than 4AGE is definitely the best choice, if it is force induction than its gotta be 4A-GZE or 3S-GTE

Well I was planning to do a turbo setup. After current events, I'm deciding to do all motor. The shop I occasionaly work for can do all the stuff for me. I just need to get a hold of the company we get our motors from because we didn't get a hold of them yesterday.

Thanks man. I just might take some pics of it just too see how the car looks as of now cause it ain't lookin pretty. I found a dime sized hole under the header and a huge gash near the rear engine mounts. Yup time to swap.
