    SPEAKERS! need suggestions

hey guys...i sortof need your help. my stock speakers are finally getting fuzzy after nearly 4 years of use(2 in my possession, so i KNOW they were abused  ). i'm looking to replace all 4 with either a component system or a basic set of 4 speakers.

i know nothing about speakers, and i have a limited budget...if it helps, i've got an Alpine head unit and a sub/dedicated amp.

    so, sound gurus, fire away.

If you are on a budget, like almost all of us are, a good speaker for a good price is the infinity kappa or if no budget JL or Boston Acoustik, well thats the ones I preffered, it all depends on your taste

For the rolla stay away from infinity kappas for the back. The hole has to be made bigger in order for them to fit. Are you going to amplify these speakers? Because if not then get some with lower wattage as your stock and even aftermarket in radio amps are not powerful enough to make them sound good. In other words they will start to distort at higher volumes.

I would probably recommend that if you have not enlisted someone that knows how to install speakers in your car, and if you don't have that experience either to buy them from a place that will install them for you as well.

I had kappas all around my car, but they were hard to install. The sound was good, but I had an alpine amp powering them.

I think the infinity reference are less bulky, and they make a shallow model for your doors. Also Polk Audio, Alpine and even some pioneers are good picks. I probably stay away from sony and kenwood.

Why don't you do a search on websites and see what you find, and then come back with a few models and we can advise you in more detail.

I've got some Pioneer's in my car and I like them a lot. I'm starting to notice though that I need an amp for the volume that I listen to them as they distort... Oh, they were only about $50-$100 for each set.

SO i went shopping on Crutchfield.com's site, and found some component sets for fairly cheap...then again, i was looking in the 0-$170 range.

    i found these sets:

    http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FDm5Z7dyKzr/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=410&id=essential_info&i=500SPR136A

    http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FDm5Z7dyKzr/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=410&I=113KFCP605

    http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FDm5Z7dyKzr/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=410&I=113KFCP505

any opinions on those? i'm also looking elsewhere, but i'm just trying to get an idea of what's good and what's not, anymore.

I personally like the alpines better, but they are only 5 1/4. You should definitely go 6 1/2 You may also want to look into www.etronics.com They are pretty good and have good prices. Of course there is always eBay, and most of the times they have the best prices.

the reason i looked at crutchfield was the fact that they come with all the wiring, harnesses, install kits, etc...as well as an install guide. i never installed the speakers i've had sitting around(which probably don't work, but i'll never know) since no one bothered to answer my plea for help the MANY times i asked for it.

i'm going to have to do this one on my own, no matter how much working on electronic stuff scares me, and there's no way i'm going to afford having a shop do it...so i'm going to need every harness/graphic direction i can find.

You only need speakers adaptors wich most of the speakers come with anyway. Yes it is true crutchfield is good in sending you what you need, but the speakers themselves most of the times come with mouting hardware. At least that was the case with my infinity's. If you have not installed speakers before then I suggest that you stay away from components and just go with two ways. They are easier to install as your first speakers. There are no harnesses for speakers, you have to cut and splice/solder/connect them. Butt connectors are usuallt a good method.

The stock speakers need to be drilled out, but it is no biggie. I don't remember ever reading a plea from you asking for help on installing speakers.

of course you never saw a written one - i wouldn't bother people from out of state to come into the state and help me.

soldering? butt connectors? wha? i know what soldering is, and i don't know how to do it. butt connectors...err, yeah.

like i said, i don't know a damned thing. i guess i'll just give up for now, since the speakers aren't totally dead, and i won't have anyone to help me for the next 2 months anyway.

thanks for the help, regardless :(
