    What do you guys think?

Los Angeles, CA -- Call it hybrid hysteria.

The demand for Toyota's gas-electric Prius has prompted some people to pay more than the new car sticker price for a model that has thousands of miles on it.

The reason is simple. They don't have to wait for months on a dealers' waiting list.

Kelley Blue Book says buyers have paid private sellers and used car dealers as much as $3,000 more than the advertised price of a new 2004 or 2005 model.

It is very unusual for second-hand cars to sell for more than their new counterparts, since cars typically lose value almost immediately.

Automotive experts say the only other instances are luxury vehicles like a Ferrari and hot new releases like the Mazda Miata and the Mini Cooper.

The experts say the Prius, which lists for between $21,000 and $26,000, is the first economy car with a higher resale value.

Older Prius models are not seeing the same phenomenon

That 3000k over in price will be saved in fuel and taxes though

Hybrid-Related Component Coverage: Hybrid-related components, including the HV battery, battery control module, hybrid control module and inverter with converter, are covered for 8 years/100,000 miles. The HV battery may have longer coverage under emissions warranty. Refer to applicable Owner’s Warranty Information booklet for details.

100,000 mile warranty on those batteries. So, other than that, what are these high maintentence costs youre talking about?

Yeah, you wont get that warranty if you buy it through a private party seller.

I like the idea of a hybrid car, but I dont think they are pleasing to the eye yet. 2000 tax break though!

Nope. And it will continue for a while too, to give people incentive to buy them

Yea maybe you'll pay a few thousand extra, but between tax breaks and the money you'll save from gas, I'd think it would be worth it.

Why doesn't the warranty extend to the 2nd owner? If the warranty has not expired, I always thought it could be used by whoever owned the car, original owner or not.

i thought they discontinued that? i could be wrong, but i thought i read somewhere that the tax breaks are over.

any time you buy a certified used vehicle from a dealer it has a warranty. toyota cert used = 6 years, 100k miles. that changes between car companies, but currently there are a whopping 2 that have hybrids available, and Honda's warranty is similar.
