Engine SRI vs CAI?

    SRI vs CAI?

    What is the difference between them...I know that the cold air one works better but realistically how much more of a difference, and is there a difference in sound at all.

    SRI sucks air inside the engine bay, CAI sucks air from the outside, disadvantage SRI can suck in hot air and reduce even more HP, CAI if submerged in water can suck water in your engine. CAI will sound louder since the air travels longer. I did a K&N conversion kit, its long enough to be a cold air, but still sits inside the engine bay. it sucks air under the car but high enough that it will not be submerged in water.

    hmmm

    How do I go about getting that conversion kit and will it fit a 2000. Is that a hard install and how hard is it to find the kits.are you also saying that the SRI is not loud at all then...everyone I talk to says that its the same sound almost not that much of a difference? thanks for everything

    its a big difference and on my 95 i notice it big time... SRI u floor it the car sounds gut less cuz it is gutless... CAI well the one i hav i made it myself and i run stock filter box... and result better response and compared to SRI u notice a big difference...

    They are not that hard, its the research that takes a long time. find the pipe that has the same bend the way you want the intake to run, find one that uses the same mounting points for your sensor, then do a fitment test to see if it works, if not try a different intake. Just be prepared to spend alot of money since K&N are not cheap. this one came from a 02 mini cooper.

    However, you can purchase a BYPass valve for your CAI, incase you were ever in deep enough water that it starts sucking up the water.

    yeah unless you have the AEM CAI for 9th gens. The intake piping is all one piece and therefore has nowhere to put the bypass valve:

    see - all one damn piece. So if you want to put a bypass valve on the 9th gen AEM CAI, you're gonna have to have it cut and custom fit the valve in there yourself. Which I am not gonna risk doing because you'd have to have a perfect cut, which is nearly impossible on one of the bent parts and the damn thing is hardly straight anywhere before the MAF sensor (bypass valve has to be installed between the filter and MAF sensor)
