    16's or 17's on my 01 Corolla S?

I'm getting rims soon and I've read on here about 17's with 205/40/17 rubbing on the wheels wells and i plan on puttin Tein H springs on soon also. I don't want to roll my fenders so would i need 16's or can i get by with 17s without wheel rub?

it's gonna rub no matter if you get 16's or 17's because of the width of the tire. it scrapes against the fender lip when you go over big dips. but if it helps any i just got 17's and my car is EXTREMELY low in the rear (top of tire is just below the wheel well) and mine only rubs when i go through a long curve or a big dip. and you can always roll your fenders so that it doesn't rub at all

UMM, NO. I run 17's on my 02 and the rear inner fender wells do not rub and they are not rolled or trimmed. Its all in the offset, mines are at +42mm

I think 16's look better, just more proportional in relation to the car. You'll also have more sideway to protect the rims from potholes and such

get 17's, cuz when its time to replace tires, 205/40/17 tires are mad cheap compared to 205/45/16

My friend had 45's on his car and it rubbed like crazy in both the front and rear.

    My current wheel/tire setup:
16x7 American Racing Type SR 686 +42mm offset 5-5/8" backspace.
    Yokohama Avid H4S 205/45HR16.

My back passenger side wheel well rubs on big dips.
There is about 1/4" of space between my shock and tire in the rear!
I personally wouldn't go any more than 16" wheels because of the ride comfort factor.
16s look nice and big on my corolla and they still have some decent rubber between the rim and road.

215/45/17 is way too big for the 01. you would DEFINITELY HAVE to roll the fenders with that size.
THE largest size you should get with a 17 is 205/40/17 AT THE MOST.
Mine would only rub if there are people in the back seat. Rolling the fenders took care of that. If you dont ride people in the back, then dont roll them.

honestly, the ride quality depends on the tire quality. I really can't even tell the difference between my current rims (with 205/40/17) and my steelies (195/60/14)...you just have to be careful when going over potholes

i have 17's. they dent easily. id have gone with 16's if i knew what i was doing when i was buying rims. dented lips are an eyesore, trust me. check how the rims are manufactured.

get 17's, put 4 people in your car, and it'll be the nicest ride of your life before you decide to turn around and switch cars. just roll your fenders.

i see. hmm. i guess i was assuming 16's dented less easily than 17's...

i agree with you, you can prevent dents if you drive slow and carefully and learn the roads and etc....but every once in a while you get unlucky and encounter a pothole at nightime that wasnt there before...a lot of the roads in my area pop up with suprise potholes...like a new one is formed everyday. ive been a victim several times because of this. sigh.

    well...

i got fairly cheap 17s two years ago (exel from wheelmax.com) and they havent dented yet. its all in how you drive. miss the potholes, slow over the RR crossings, learn the roads, know where the good lane is on each street, and get in it.
BTW...about 16s...i had a set of 16 inch MOTEGI (good brand?) mr7s. they dented actually easier than my 17s i have now!! They were horrible. I sold them to my brother and he sold his car with the motegis on there.

I can tell right now...this is gunna turn into a huge debate over 16s or 17s... whatever. get what you want, man.

    Thanks for the help

I was lookin at rims and tires because my dad was gettin me a set for grad but my stock tires i have now have no tread so I'd have to get another set for winter up here in ND so i decided to stick with the 185/65/14's and get an Escort 8500 x50 radar detector..from what I've head from alot of sites its supposed to be the best and the only thing that comes close is beltronics and Escort owns them. Thanks for the advice tho, i looked at 16's a little and thats what i'll get when i decide to get rims probly next spring.
