Question about MPG for AE101 owners

I'm trying to figure out how many gallons I have left when my gas light comes on. I know Corolla gas lights fade on and off sometimes, but when mine comes on and stays on, I've usually gone only around 270 or 280 miles on a tank. Say there are 3 gallons left in the tank when the light comes on, that means I'm only getting 27 or 28 mpg at a very generous estimate. I thought the car should be getting better than that.

Do you think the gauge is off, or does this mpg sound about right to you?

that sounds about right, i know for a fact that from f to e its 10 gallons ive let it get to a lil under e it was 11 n some odd gallons i think anythin else after that is scary so i cant say. averaging from f to e on ten gallons i get 250-260miles so 25-26 mpg

    a) You'll get better milage in the summer. Winter seems to have that effect on most cars.

    b) You'll get double the milage if it's all freeway driving. Going to school and back is roughly a 420 mile drive and I can make it on one tank and my light is barely starting to go on when I get home.

Don't worry about it. The milage you're getting is normal.
