Help me, will 17' make my car slower

Hello everyone, on the corolla xrs, the wheels are 195 - 55 - 16. I would like to put lightweight 17' wheels like the Volk TE37 . I'm not sure about the size but lets say 205 - 45 - 17. Will the larger tires make a difference in the acceleration? Will my speedometer still indicate the right speed?I want more grip but dont want to slow my car down. Thank you very much, any help will be much appreciated.

volk man, if u can afford it.....

and go to miata.net for tire size calculator

not sure if you would lose power, but u won't notice it with your xrs

if the wheel is the same weight or lighter than your stock wheels (with the tire weigh factored in also) and the overall diameter is the same, then your performance should be the same (or slightly better if the wheel/tire combo is lighter than your stock wheel/tire combo)... plus if the wheel is a little wider, you get a bigger contact patch (so theoretically better handling, etc.)

YES it will be slower, 17 inch is much bigger. takes longer than your 14's to do a full rotation. but its all good. i got 17's my steering wheel feels stiff, my car feels planted to the ground. all in all you feel like you'll be driving a solid car.

    get 17's

17' rims would be 17 feet tall, don't think they'd fit in the wheelwells, try 17" rims instead

TOMS: Its not just the size of the wheel, its the size of the tire also, if the overall diameter is the same from his stock wheel/tire combo as his 17" wheel/tire combo (in other words, low profile tires on the 17"), then the overall size will be the same, and if the weight of the 17" wheel is lighter than his stock wheel (or same weight), then his acceleration and suspension performance should be the same... and by suspension performance, i mean by the unsprung weight on each end from the wheel/tire, because if the unsprung weight is higher than factory, it will first create more strain on your suspension components and secondly, they will take longer to react, causing an even rougher ride (more so than just having the low profile tires on)...

wtf.... rotas? volk is better... and 17" rims shouldn't make your car dat much slower especially if it's light weight...

to sum up everything teevee just said, if they weigh the same or less than ur stock wheels and tires and they are the same diameter (the whole wheel and tire) then ur golden--it wont be slower. ur speedometer will still be correct also if u get the proper diameter.

come on guys. this should be simple.

first of all, rotas are very hard to compare to the very high quality volk racing wheels. they are in different classes mainly because volk offers forged magnesium wheels as opposed to cast.

if you need more contact patch for improvements in acceleration (thinking grip wise), handling, and braking. the larger rims and tires should help you in this area.

acceleration could be hurt because of heavy wheels and tires. with lighter wheels your acceleration should be better.

going with what teevee and exolyte said, if you match the diameter of the stock wheels your speedometer should be very accurate (within a couple of miles per hour)

17" will take longer for your tires to make a full rotation but look on the bright side...less gas consumption.....everyone's talkin' bout the launch...it'll take a lil more effort for take off but once the cars up and runnin' you'll have more speed...look at it this way...14" with smaller tire size runs ur redline faster...less speed....faster at launch but more gas consumption....

Same outer diameter and with the same overall weight, the larger wheels would theoretically slow the car down. Can YOU feel the difference? Most likely not.

Reason. The increase in the width of the tires will create marginally more friction. On top of that, the larger wheels will have more of it's weight on the outer perimeter of the wheels when comparing two different size wheels. This increase in outer weight would create more rotational weight (needs more torque to perform the same motion).

I'm getting Volk/Gram lights 57c in 16's on my 94 corolla soon. Rotas are knockoffs and cheaper, go for the Volks they're better quality.
