Don't let friends own their own motorcycle!

Well I lost a very good friend of mine last friday at 6:45pm after he was just driving around on his new Susuki GSR when suddenly at 40mph a jeep exiting out a neighborhood pull out in front of him. He had no time to stop and slammed right into the jeep driven by a 16 year old girl. My friend Sam surprised everyone when he got the bike. I had alot of things going on in my life and rarely got to see him and warn him not to get a bike because how dangerous they are. Well the accident ended his life cause when he hit the jeep he went head first on the rear wheels cracking his helmet and causing it to fly off his head. He died instantly. If you guys have friends that is speed crazy and looks for speed as a thrill. Please don't let them buy a bike or warn them about the things that could happen because this is the first time I lost a very close friend and feel terrible losing him.

Ya thats right, people may think they can ride a motorcycle, but other drivers on the road are hazardouse to bikers. My friend was only 19 and thats way too young of an age to die. Right now I'm gonna start hassling my friend TurismoDreamin to stop thinking about getting a bike cause the way he drives he has less that a week of living if he bought a bike.

Yeah, I have a friend who got one Senior year of HS. I saw him on it once, 2 weeks later a van pulled out in front of him. He was in a Coma for several months, and had a ton of reconstructive surgery on both legs. Big strong athletic guy and now he's skinny and has to walk with a cane.

i think the point of say is that if he was in a car and got hit by a jeep he prolly wouldn't have died, but by bein on a bike and having no protection what soever except for a heltmet is the reason why he died

you think if the bitch cant see a bike... she will see people walking around?

petition for the abolishment of sidewalks that promote people to dangerously walk about.

i mean come on, people get hit in cross walks and killed. should people just stop doing anything they enjoy and only drive around in tanks?

You say that people shouldn't get bikes because they may get killed but how many people do you know, or even this board knows, that have died in a car accident?
    =======================================================

this same thing happened to a co-worker of mine and fortunately he only suffered injuries to his hands, arms and pocket book. but he got a nice new HD Road King!

A few years back I had a friend die on her Harley the day she got it. Someone ran her off the road into a ditch and she hit a tree.

Anyone that gets a bike understands the risks involved and has to accept them. The inability to control other drivers is the biggest hazard to motorcyclists today.

Oh, and reiterating what Rolla said, the motorcycle cops that I know all say that they like riding the HD police bikes more than the BMW's not because they're nicer but because you can hear them coming. I know a cop who died because some lady cutoff his quiet BMW bike.

SO when I get my sport bike I'm going to put the loudest pipes I can on it, while obviously avoiding the fart cans...

Thanks for the support guys. I'm not telling people to not buy something they love. Just give warning to things that might happen. I guess atleast he my friend died for something he loved doing. He was always fascinated with bikes ever since I known him, but never thought he'd surprise everyone by getting one this soon. Thanks for your prayers guys cause he left an older sister and a little brother that looked up to him. This experience has certainly change the way I view things in life.

dont assume that when every biker wrecks, he's gonna die..

what brand helmet was he wearing? this means a lot as to whether the construction of the helmet was really good..for example, agv helmets aren't the best you can get, they're cheap, around 1-200 bucks..for the weekend riders that doesn't want to spend too much..or an arai or shoei helmet, can cost upwards to 700-900 dollars for a helmet..

was he wearing full leathers? textile jackets and jeans dont cut it when you fall..they tear up like pieces of paper..

when you ride a bike..get full gear..and remember, you ALWAYS get what you pay for..

dont cheap out on gear, it's the only barrier between your head/body and the asphalt

i myself have a kbc vr1 helmet, alpinestars smx-4 gloves, alpinestars tz1 leather jacket, and frank thomas boots, reason for no leather pants is cause i can't fit them over jeans but i wear pads under jeans when i ride, i'm hoping to upgrade to an arai helmet and dainese jacket soon

    So was your friend speeding?

If not, I dont understand your logic.

When you own and ride a motorcycle, you run that risk. Just so happens that your friends impact was the kind where leathers wouldnt help.

If your so worried about dying, stop street racing: http://TRDforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20

wow man I'm really sorry to hear that..... well I've been thinking about getting a bike for a while now but my mom is like begging me not to but I dk it's just too tempting and not because of the speed but just because I've always wanted to have one just to cruise around in...

You cant NOT buy a bike because someone else is afraid for you. If you ARE afraid and are have second thoughts about a bike, then riding a bike is NOT for you.

Defiantely take the MSF course...it will give your mom more peace of mind...and your insurance rates will be lower.

Which is another thing....many people go through the process of getting their license, but whent they look into insurance rates, they realize they cant afford it.

Yeah, definately buy a used bike....no more than 1500-2000k for a first bike.

Then another 1000-1500 for safety equipment.....

I'm paying $3,000 for mine. It is a 2000 CBR 600 F3 and I looked at it yesterday and it's excellent. It rides smooth, brand new tires and really low mileage too.

What kind of protective outfit he had on really didn't matter to what type of accident it was. He was driving in the speed limit of 40 and the girl driving the jeep exiting a street pulled right infront of him. He had no time or distance to react to the situation and slammed right against it. He had a good helmet also, but the impact was just so devastating that their was nothing really to do. If it was a car he hit he would have had a chance. Again guys I really didn't phrase the title the way I wanted to, but everyone that new my friend just had this wierd vibe about him getting a bike you know. The kind of vibe that something bad is gonna happen. Like some of you guys I also like bikes, but can't risk myself to own one. Just becareful for the guys thats got a bike right now and have fun with it.
