Radar Detectors

I didn't know where to post so I posted here. My question is how well do radar detectors actually work. I have been hearing all negative things about them and never owned one. I wanna know your experiences with them before I convince everyone to buy them.

Most local jurisdictions dont use laser.....state departments and larger jurisdictions use laser. There is no point to use Laser (and pay the cost of it) because there is no heavy traffic, which is lasers advantage. (Because you pick one car and shoot) With radar, its hard to pinpoint what car its pinging off of.

And vascar is basically a stop watch between two pre-determined points.

    Just dont rely on them.

They are worthless in regards to laser...since its instant on. By the time it detects the beam, youre caught.

I've had and tried several radar detectors before. The best money can buy IMHO is the Valentine One. Against radar and laser it can't be beat in terms of accuracy and not giving false alerts. They are expensive, look on eBay if you want a used one.

I was using one on the interstate going 90+ when I got a laser alert. I probably had less than 3 seconds to respond and react, but it was enough time to slam on the brakes and slow down. I passed the cop 1/2 mile later and he did not pull me over. Yes, not much warning with laser but any warning is better than none.

If you speed a lot, a good radar detector will pay for itself eventually.

With laser, its instant on man. He puts your car in the viewfinder, locks in on the front of your car, and pulls the trigger. He gets an instant reading of your speed. Until he pulls that trigger, he is not transmitting anything. (There is no such thing as a laser detector detector)

Your detector may have been picking up the transmission from him targeting a car in front of you.

One other possibility is that he couldnt get a clean reading in time, and your detector picked it before he got a clean read.
