I didn't know what to think until a few days ago. I say just take out the tube and let her pass on as jeprox said. Some say they would want to be kept alive, but what about if the family runs out of money? what if insurance said they will no longer cover the costs? what to do then?!

This lady has been like this for 15yrs. If there is no hope for her in 15yrs, then there may never be anymore hope. If they really wanted her to get better, they'd do their best to help her. but they are now at a dead end.

After all of this, I have come to the conclusion that I want a living will. This way people don't make the decisions for me. I wouldn't want to be on a feeding tube for 15yrs not knowing who anyone is or being bound to a hospital bed or anything.

Her parents are stupid as her parents are not willing to budge even after all the courts have decided against keeping her alive. They simply do not understand how it feels like to be in such a situation for 15 years. No one knows what she thinks or feels. If the courts decided to leave the feeding tube in, she might suffer like this for another 30-40 years, who knows. Living in so much misery where one cannot express his/her feelings, not be able to understand anything, Heck, not even be able to eat properly must be torturing the poor soul. Let her pass away and make it easier on her.

Its that one wheel chair girl right? I think it should be left in if she isn't a vegatable. If she can't move talk or do anything then yank it.

Thats what my dad wants if anything like that happens. If there is no hope for him to get out of a comma or out of a vegatable state. The only thing thats keeping him alive are tubes and not him. He wants to yank the tubes

Thing is... how do we know if someone has no hope. There's always things happening in the future. If I was stuck in that state, but there was any possibility that I could get back out, then I'd want to be kept alive. But how do we know there is absolutely no possibility until we get old and die.

    Rough choices.

she's considered as in a vegetable state. she's been on the feeding tube for the last 15yrs. she can't talk, can't move, can't do nothing. my vote is to leave the tubes out and let her pass on peacefully. her doctors said they see no hope at all for her.

i can see where her family is coming from, it's always hard to loose someone you love.

it's hard to see someone go.
when my dad was in the hospital coz of cancer, it's painful to see him wiggle and move around coz of the pain he's feeling in his body coz of the cancer. during his last few days/hrs. doctor asked us if we want to revive him when his time comes. after looking at him in bed suffering, we said doc, try to let him live just to reach his b-day coz his b-day was only a few days away. we said after that, then just let him pass on peacefully. it's the hardest damn decision we have ever made in our life but it's best for him to go on rather than lie in hospital bed and moan and groan coz of the pain.

The news is that the full appeal court has declined to address the case, but her parents still are going to budge and are going to try other legal means.

It's amazing people with the "hope of heaven"(not) still want to live on earth and keep others alive.

Thank GOD there are some good people out there. You all have impressed me thus far. In working in a nursing home for 1 1/2 yrs and on a skilled nursing unit for 1 1/2 years (basically an upscale nursing home, although not meant for permanent residence), I can HONESTLY tell you that there are people who GREATLY benefit from feeding tubes. I have encountered people who, for one reason or another, were unable to eat for a time and feeding through an IV wasn't an option for whatever reason....BUT these were people who were 1) not vegetative, 2) able to express their own thoughts and opinions, 3) had a GOOD prognosis for recovery, 4) eventually came off of it when the problem was corrected and they could actually eat food. Feeding tubes are just the bane of my existence, otherwise. They are not MEANT to sustain a person with a prognosis as poor as Schiavo.

People talk about the right to live...HELL WITH THAT! How about the right to die? We treat our animals more humanely than we treat our own brothers and sisters because DEATH = MEDICAL FAILURE in our society. And is just plainly should NOT be like that.

People gripe about letting the poor woman starve to death or thirst to death. Well, no water will surely kill you faster than no food. But, the question I beg - what is it like to die of dehydration/starvation? Is it painful? Is it torturous? Does anyone know for sure what exactly it is to die like that? It would SEEM to be a terrible way to go....long and drawn out....then again, who has ever starved to death and lived to tell about it. I don't know of anyone, do you? To some people, I promise you, it is a blessing because nothing could be any worse than what they've already endured.

    Late,
    Trav

I watched all the videos. She appears to have died a long time ago in my opinion. I beleive all that is left is a shell with instincts driving it and nothing more. I beleive she is mentally void. And even if she was not would she really want to live only being able to think to herself and never share in conversation? And some people are like "She can still hear you and listen", I doubt it. Chances are if she has lost the ability to talk or communicate on any level she has lost her ability to understand or comprehend any spoken words. This is all specualation but if I was in her position I would want to be put to death quickly and painlessly. Not starve to death.

Will in her case a living will is what everyone needs, you should also tell your family and freinds what you want happen to you if you become a vegatable.

Myself I have a living will, I do not want to be in some type of crap like this, they have blown this way out of proportion, no need to do that

I agree that it has been too long and it is about time they pulled the plug on her.. But I wish there were a more humane way then having her starve to death, leathal injection, etc..

I read the whole article I think they should put the tube back the husband has greatly reduced her chances of her ever getting better.
They should put the tube back even if she doesn't get better but to let her parents have thier wish and to piss him off since he deserves to die more than she does.

well... it's finally over for her. may she rest in peace.

now, both sides are arguing about cremation vs. burying her body. husband wants her body to be cremated, her family wants her to be buried. unbelieveable!
