Just saw it today in Calgary auto show and it is actually nice looking when you see from a close distance. The quality is awesome and the lines are very smooth.

Despite the controversial looks, Jetta was the bench mark in the late 90s in quality (ofcourse, initial quality since the longterm reliability is very questionable) and that quality was reflected a few years later in the Euro-inspired 9th generation Corollas and then later on in Mazda 3s. They have done it again now. They have raised the bar once again in initial quality to new heights and the other automakers will have to match that.

Well, you dont buy a TDI for speed...you buy it for the gas mileage. HP ratings are at 85-100, but have good tourque

There are some very fast moddedd TDIs out there though....

VW is tryin to market the new jetta as accord and camry competitor...

damn what happen to passat if jetta go against accord?? compete with avalon and maxima?? hm... VW alreadi got into some messy situation when they tried to sell phaeton sedan yeah right.. very expensive VW... only fool buy dat car. they alreadi have audi for lux car why wanna position VW as the lux car? thank god audi made alot of money these past few years or else bye bye VW.

VW owns Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, Seat, Skoda......so they wont be going down anytime soon.
The Phaeton didnt too terrible, but it didnt give them the numbers that they expected. Which is alright, because its chump change compared to what that company is worth.

The Toureg has done pretty well, and that was a new venture for VW too.

lol it's like the same damn car - if it didn't have the VW badging on it, you could easily convince people that it's a spy shot of the next-gen corolla

Jetta is a little larger, and the build quality is a little better as well, after sitting in both cars and comparing.

hmm.. a $24k corolla.. that'll sell. why does everyone gotta copy toyota? and haven't VW's been crappy reliability-wise the last 10 years since they started merging with so many companies?

Nowadays, I would strongly doubt VW has better quality. I sat inside a new Camry SE V6 at the auto show and then I sat inside the Passat as well. The well equipped Camry interior was relatively simply laid out, but the build quality felt alot stronger and richer and had that "everything just feels right", which I did not feel in the Passat since it felt more fragile albeit well laid out interior. Just my two cents.

Toyotas have improved A LOT in the last little while. Even my 04 Corolla S and 05 Corolla XRS build quality and quality of material is substantially different. Everything fits together much tightly in my XRS than it did in my S. Let alone other stuff like electronic optitron guages, leather and chrome work

I like the frontend, the back will take time to grow on me... I wanna test one of these out soon, see how the new 2.0T motor is. Its high compression, so I dont know how good it'll be if they develope performance software for it.

Jettas have been built in Mexico for the last few years and if you want to talk about bitter customers, look at www.myvwlemon.com. It is one of the top 20 twenty lemon cars. Their reliability has not been up to par. However, the initial quality is very good.

People buy VW's and expect perfection, thats the problem. I havent had one major problem with my Jetta within one year of owning it. A few little things, but what car doesnt have those? My moms 03 Corolla has had more problems than me 03 Jetta.

read my post again....and yes, I think the quality of a VW is better than a toyota.

Sit in a newer passat, and then sit in the camry. HUGE difference.

And there are problems with every makes and model out there.....the newer passats had a major recall on the coil packs....which is why the B5.5s have low ratings. Based solely on that issue. Other than that, there arent any other issues.

And anyone can argue any point by finding some websites to back up their opinion:
