    Quick question on intake

    I own a 2003 corolla S. I installed an AEM CAI.

Now at first I had a problem with it because of the fact I had the vaccuum hoses on wrong.

Now the thing is the way it sounds. It's REALLY REALLY loud. I am talking I can hear the suction from inside my house and through the garage door.

I don't know what is causing it to be so loud. I think it is affecting the car, because gas mileage went down and it feels like the car is struggling to breathe.

My question is, how should I go about checking it? I have cleaned the filter on it once. I am just not sure what is going on with the intake. It is extremely loud.

Any advice/comments would be GREATLY appreciated ;)

No, I just put a new DTM muffler on, but before that it was still extremely loud.

I don't think it's supposed to be that loud. Do you think some hoses may still be wrong? There is no engine light, so I don't think the hoses are wrong.

Just sounds like it's clogged and having a hard time pulling air.

Upside down? How do you do that? I know it's the right sized filter, came with it :p

I don't think that's the problem. How do you install the filter upside down though?

Ok :p It's just that when I went to put my muffler on, the guy made a point to notice the loud noise coming from the front left fender.

Said that doesn't sound "nice". As he put it, but said the muffler did. That is what made me question how loud it was.

The 1 and 2ZZ intake systems are loud even stock. What your hearing is an engine breathing efficiently. My Celica was louder through the intake than it was through the TRD exhaust. No CEL means you have it hooked up right.

I guess there could be a problem, but if your check engine light doesn't come on within like 15 mins of driving, then I would have to say that there's nothing wrong. Like I said, my Celica was loud as hell even without being in lift (when it hit lift under a bridge or in a tunnel, it would sound like a stock car, no bs). The stock air boxes resonates some of the intake noise, which becomes quite loud when removed.

It is because your intake is resonating now where it was baffled before. AEM intakes are known for being loud!
