    Silverstar Comparison (Pics!)

A lot of people here have had mixed reviews about the Silverstars. Some people swear by them, some people hate them, some people say they didn't even see a difference.

Well, my folks brought in the Sienna to get some bumps and bruises fixed so they rented a stock 05 Corolla CE. I decided it'd be a good way to compare headlights.

Silverstar on left, stock on right.

I do also have Silverstar fog lights as well as turn signals. Turn signals don't do much besides look cool with the blue casing during the day. But the foglights are nice when heading down the mountain every night into a wall of white cloudy mist.

Dunno, figure this might help some make a decision if they're facing it. Up to you guys to decide.

it is not really that much of a difference. the standard bulb doesn't look as yellow in person and the silverstar doesn't look as blue in person, in my opinion.

it is that camera lens that picks up slightly different colors.

It would be better if you took a pic with both headlights in it, so that the camera isn't compensating for each one seperately. that's why one looks so yellow and one looks so blue. If you had both in the shot at the same time, I'm sure it would look different.

Not worth it. I had Silverstar fogs, and I was greatly dissapointed... then they burned out prematurely.

I could barely tell the difference between stock and silverstar fogs. It was such a waste of money.

absolutely.....when i had these there was little to no difference......try another test and this will most likely disprove more claims......take a $40 Silverstar bulb.....and then take a $9 Wal-Mart bulb that claims to be whiter or bluer than stock....you'll most likely get the same result.......because on my 94 with my stock headlights....i had stock bulbs, then i switched and bought the Wal-Mart bulbs, then i switched and bought the Silverstar bulbs......i got pissed after all that because the silverstars were really upsetting.....so then i switched to Nokya Stage II 100w Arctic White Pro Halogens....they cost like $20 or something......they last a long time and they're the bluest, brightest, and highest quality light ive ever bought......that was a year and a half ago and i havent switched to anything else since then......

i was at a local autoparts store and saw these GE nighthawk which is suppose to be just as good as silverstar but when i look closely they are even worst hahah silverstar got a little purple tint to it but the nighthawk is just like any other normal bulbs w/o any tints or anything...

imo silverstar is overprice aswell just like the PIAAs... i mean u can get other brands for less...

Silverstars made my headlight harness start smoking after 6th month of them being in. Luckily i took em out quick and no damage done, stock lights for me now cause other than the color, i didn't notice much difference.

Don't use Silverstar bulbs, it will rob your money because it won't last long.

Haha, I wanted to, the problem was the big garage behind me and I didn't want to back up both the cars because I already lined them up for the wall comparison.

PERSONALLY... I like them. Nothing bad has come of them since I put them in, and I like the whiter color. GIVEN... I didn't pay much for them, so it was sort of worth it. Silverstars aren't supposed to be blue. If you're looking for blue, look APC STATUS or elsewhere.

I have silverstars in my headlights and fogs. If you cannot afford HID kits or do not want to mod your headlight housing, these bulbs are IMO worth it. As for their average life, I disabled my DRL's and so far, my very first pair is one year old and still going strong. Only downside I see to them is that the silverstars are brighter some days and dimmer some other days. Maybe its my imagination.

Silverstars suck, I had to change mine at least once a month due to blowouts. To much money for a bulb with a light thats a little bluer

You have bad luck than Psycho. I got mine at "wally world". Just removed the stock bulbs then put in the silverstars. Works fine for me and no problems. *Knock on wood*. Did you do anything to your harness? Did you disable drl's?

I can see why it would suck paying so much for bulbs if you have to constantly change them due to blowouts but for those who has never tried them before. You should give them a try. Much better then stocks. Of course no way better than HID's if you have the money.

I had no complaints with mine for the month I had them in. They were a big improvement over stock..... but then the car was totalled.

    SilverStar's Tested

OK...I see a little difference of opinions here on these Silverstar bulbs. Perhaps this will help....

I bought an '06 Tahoe and wasn't very happy with the stock (non-HID) headlights so I went out and bought a pair of Silverstars for the low beams. I started out by just installing one Silverstar bulb and left the stock halogen in the other side. WOW what a difference!!! The silverstar was MUCH whiter - but not blue. I pulled out my LUX meter and tested at a distance of 1 meter. Both bulbs put out about same amount of "luminance" (about 980 Lumen/m). So, although the silverstar did not put out any "more" light, it did produce a much whiter light (much closer to the 4350K temp HID's in my Beamer).

The silverstars have been in about 3 months now with no problems whatsoever. Its real important not to touch the bulbs when you are installing them. In fact, its a really good idea to wipe the new bulbs with a lint-free cloth soaked lightly in isopropyl alcohol before installing them. Like most halogen bulbs, even the slightest touch (body oils) or impurity on the bulb will severely reduce its life span.

The silverstars work so much better that I just purchased a set for the highbeams. I also plan to pull out those worthless factory fog lights and replace them with some Hella's driving lights and - you guessed it - will put in some silverstar H3's in those too.

    Best of luck!

you know, i used to like these bulbs, till both of my low beams decided to blow at the same time - a little over a year from purchase.
