    Power window/door lock question...

Do cars with manual windows and door locks come already wired for power windows/door locks? I thought they did, but maybe I'm wrong. I was about to buy the parts off of a junked car to do the conversion, but the guy working there told me that I'd have to run wires for everything from the ECU....

Anybody have any info on this?

Yeah there is a rubber boot going from the body to the door and it feels like there are a couple of wires in there, so I just have to find out what they are for. I don't know how to take the door panels off yet. Need to read up in my haynes manual. Honestly there's so much shit I need to be doing right now.... I don't know when I'll get to this project. Thanks for the tips though.

But what about the wiring? Will I have to run wires for the power and whatever else I'll need, or are they already there?

I'm not sure. I would pop the door panel open, check for unused connectors. If there are none in there, then you have an answer, if there are some then you need to find out what they are for. Ask the dealership?

Depending on what kit you get, it might come with wire...
If there is unused wire inside, you could probably find a use for it. It would save you some time in routing.

About the ECU. I would imagine the only reason to run through the ECU would be for the safety auto lock when you reach your RPM or speed limit, and maybe there is an integrated door lock module. You could probably just bypass the ECU all together.

Have you looked when the doors are open, for the rubber cover that goes between the door and the body that would hold the wires if they were there ? I really dont know what year they started with the common wiring. If you have to run wires into the doors that will be a time consuming job to do correct. The control is pretty much a couple of relays.

My car won't let you lock it with the drivers' door open and the key in the ignition..that's the only reason I could think of for running it through the ECU.

Actually the power door locks and windows goes thru the multiplex and not the ECU.
