Yeah, the law says you can't have any tint (even clear UV blocking tint) whatsoever on your front driver/passanger doors, but the rest is fair game. I've got 5% on my rear doors/window and 50%'s on the front doors, the back is so dark the front doesn't even look tinted. woohoo.

I BELIEVE that in some states it is illegal to have your side rear tinted and not your rear window tinted. Or it might have been the other way around.

Anyways, what MOST people do for all sakes of the law is the rear three windows including the rear back window. If it was legal in Cali, I'd have all 4 sides and the rear going.

    Tint cost?

hi guys, I'm planning to tint my car, and just wanted to know how much you guys paid. What do people usually do...the side windows and rear windshield? I've heard bad things about the rear windshield due to the dot matrix(?)...the heat line things, and tints bubbling..etc. Thanks

I would love to but I think it attracts the Popo, I want to modify without drawing unnecessary attention.
It's bad enough my front end is kinda bouncy;)

Really? They even care about tint in Cali? The two states that I'll be in, New Jersey and Indiana don't have any type of tint laws. There was a site with all the states and their respective tint laws listed, forgot where it was though.

Tint runs you from about $150-200. Less if you have hookups. Really, material fees are actually like 30 bucks. But I don't promote doing them yourself. As for the rear winshield and defoggers. As long as the guy doing your car isn't an idiot and it gets done right, then you'll probably have no problems.

I often see a lot of bubbly rear tint in my town, but that's mostly because most of them were diy-ers following instructions on a box.

I was going to take it to a shop, so the side windows is usually what most people do right? Or do they have the rear window done as well? LAstly, I just found the tint law thing at www.tintdude.com, and notice that NJ does not allow tint. Anyone in NJ get hassled over this? Thx

You can do how ever many windows you want except the windsheild. Some people don't like the back tinted because they like looking through clear glass when the back up. Plenty of people have the back tinted though. Even know states have their tint laws, there are a lot of people who don't have problems. But if you get tint, you are always running a risk of a cop pulling you over at least. I had real dark tint on my car in MD, it was illegal, never had any cops pull me over or say anything about it. Some get fined, it's just a risk.

Yeah I remember a place in Maryland that would tint your windows for $150 for all four. They were pretty reputable, offered gaurantee as long as you owned the car. They did a bunch of radio ads... Marylanders help me out, who was it?

Around here in Alaska they're charging anywhere from $250-$280 for rear, front, sides... I might get it done this summer. Some shops will only do 35% because the legal limit is way up at 75% for the front windows. Some shops will do down to 15%... I'm probably going to go with 35%, you really dont want it TOO dark. 35% looks classy, gives good privacy, and you have a better chance with a cop as opposed to 15%.

The cost depends on where you live is what I've found. Cost me $225 for my rear doors and back window. There's no where else within 150 miles that will tint windows.

Yea, I'm in Jersey and got my tints done for $130. all 4 windows and the rear. I've never been bothered so far. But my friend had way lighter tints on the front of his car and the cops slapped him with a $54 ticket.

i got my tint on the back window and the 4 sides for 130$. i think it was the titanium thing tint. in california, its ok to tint the rear 3 windows. front windshield and 2 front seat side windows are illegal to tint. But if your tint is light enough, some cops will let you slide.

I payed 140 for mine. I got 22%, a sunstrip, and a 5 year warrenty. I do not use my rear defogger, just because I do not want my to bubble up.

They aren't supposed to bubble up if you use your rear defogger. And if they do, the tint guys have to fix it. It isn't supposed to happen if installed properly. Don't be scared of those other DIY Tint people.

When you enter another state, your car must abide by their laws; tints or otherwise. If you rolled into Cali with FL tags, they wouldn't care, you'd get a fixit or a fine. Same with any other state.

From what i know, California has the most strict regulations on car stuff. So if i'm right about that, if your car passes for California then you'd be fine for all other states. :)

......HOWEVER.....since alot of you are talkin about tint laws, i thought id add some closure to that topic with this website......

Mine doesn't bubble..I've had it on for a while now. Paid 115-120, I think (had a hookup)..20% all around -- never bothered by police. FL tint law is 20% back, 28% front (I think, though I've never seen 28% tint), and none on the windshield (or a small strip..not sure).

I even had it in NJ for a few months..20% tint on all four windows, the back window, and a ~6" strip on the windshield. I had Florida tags, and they couldn't do anything about it.. :D

would you be thinking of GW Motorsports in Linthicum, or D&L Tinting in White Marsh? :) D&L did mine, $180 for the sides and rear with guarantee. their prices DID go up, so i'm thinking that's who you mean. GW is $215 for the sides and rear on a sedan.

i forgot to add, they are 20%

also, at least in my area, tint shops can cut you a deal if you offer to pay in cash. theyll slash off 10% of the final price or soemthing like that.
