Well the OEM steelies will set you back almost 20lbs each - weightwise, should be able to get alooy 15" a lot lighter than that. Not to mention a bigger tire footprint and lower aspect ratio for better all around performance. Can't beat a steel wheel in the winter time, but alloys are the only way to go for any performance gains.

Yea, I know all about SlipStreams, but the more I see them on everyone's Corolla, the more I am drawn away. The group Ns look promising but not quite what I am looking for. Thanks for the heads up on the 15" alloy / steelies info, and I live in South Florida, so winter isn't exactly an issue so I guess steelies wouldn't be good for me at all. I'll keep looking for some rims. Again, I am looking for 15" or 16" 5 spoke in black, and not too hard on the wallet, does anyone have any recommendations?

Question about wheel performance for 93-97.

Now that I have a job and can actually afford stuff, one of the first things I want to buy are new wheels for my car. I was originally planning on looking for some 5 spoke 15 or 16 inch wheels, but I saw another Corolla drive by me the other day and it had stock wheels without hub caps and I saw it was a different wheel than on mine. And even though they are stock wheels, I am thinking if I painted them black they wouldn't look half bad. Well, my question is what would be better for performance, aftermarket 15" rims plus new tires or ~97 stock wheels plus new tires. Also, I should mention even though I've a job, I don't make that much money yet, so it would take me a while to save up for rims, that is why I am considering the factory wheels.

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about...

if you want...you can get the nippon rims on ebay that look just like the rotas for a cheaper price in black. i think it 300 shipped. Other than that, you can buy used rims for a way better deal.

15s are much better than 14s stock. 16s are best. TRD rims come in the 16 inch size.
