the map/dli 4agze is a good strong motor..... i know from experience.... my first test drive i was amazed at the low end pull....

and it costs a lot less than 4,000 to do

other swaps for 5-6 grand..... I'd say do a 3sgte swap. It's a stronger and more powerful motor then the 4age. The only differences are if you want to do this swap you have to get custom engine mounts and stuff, but it would be well worth it. If you stick with the 4age plan you can get a front clip with everything needed Ie. Engine, tranny, ecu, powersteering... and their only around 2 grand and can get cheaper. And after getting it installed you'll still have enough cash to get the motor built for NA or cash for turbo.

HA, parents want me to keep and fix up.

Well, back a year or 2 ago, i was looking at doing a gze swap into my 95 rolla. And it was lotta money for job i had and such. Now i got a good job, going to college, and still making about 13,000 a year living at home. All i gotta pay is insurance and gas, and cell. I went to look at the 05 Rolla XRS today, and the dealer told me no one in the region of kentucky, ohio, indiana, tenn will get any. I was expecting like 19,000 after all is done when getting car.

My mom was like thats to much, you need more steady job blah blah, you dunno if you can get that big of loan. She goes what happend to your plans to your car now since its payed off. I was like well thats about 5000 to call it safe. She was like that sounds better to do, it gives you the power you dont need that you want and blah blah. I know i cant get loan for 19,000 to get the car without parents, so this might be option. But it will be nice.

Other than the GZE, are there any other swaps you can do for about 5 or 6 thousand? And would you go this route or fight to get an 05 XRS over a Supercharged 170hp 4AGZE.

Good choice but most likely will have to give up ur'e AC and power steering with that swap. If u're going all out performance that would be the best swap but if u still want you creature comforts I would stay stick with the gze swap. You might even want to swap out the supercharger for a nice turbo setup. That would be hot.

If I were you I would listen to your mom. The reason I say that is that there is no guarantee on your new job how long you will stay there. You don't want to end up with high car payment and no job (if that ever happens) I say if there is nothing wrong with your car now, keep it and save the rest of your money. Rule of thumb, the car you should get must be lower than your yearly income, that way you know you have enough money to cover other expenses that may arrive. =)

Yeah, in the swap i would have it changed to a front mount intercooler, well, id probably have to wait till i did body kit to give room for intercooler. When that engine gets its miles on it, id then rebuild and turbo probably.

I think everyone is more or less right on.
$19k is a lot of money.
Don't get into that kind of debt right now.
Trust me. It might seem like a great car, a new car, but you might end up in debt without enough money to pay it off. It's just not worth the risk. 5k is alot less, you can definatly handle that. And it would be tight.

Thanks for your alls advice. Iv always liked the idea of a 4AGZE swap, just job i had before would of been tight payments to do it. But i can afford this really easy and still have money to do exterior or interior.

Alot less than 4000 to do, that refering to doing it yourself or professional installation? A toyota specialist shop, well they only work on toyotas, the guy told me about 2000 for installation. Thats fully doing it all, including wiring harness for 4agze ecu.

Think about it this way...you'd have to work for about a year and a half to pay off your car -- and that's total income..not including bills.

If it were me, I wouldn't go into debt for it..wait until after college (if you are, or plan on going).

2,000 for installation..... they better be swapping it out, finding all the parts for you, wire it all in to OE spec in japan, and be able to pass emissions when they're done..... that's rediculous

learn something about your car and save $2,000

Yeah, the silver top is rated at 160 and blacktop at 165. The blacktop is a weaker block though. The gze (supercharged) is 170hp, and block is very strong, can do some mad mods easy to it afterwards. The 20 valve is nice, iv just read the 16vavle is quickest way to get things done, cause 20vavle takes lotta work to boost and make really nice.

20V's aren't that fast..... as i've said before, a 6th gen celica with same mods (and more) than my ae92 (smallport 16V) was slower than my ae92, and his celica has a 20V.....

and my ae92 is way slow in comparison to my mr2 (when it decides to run)

    ***update***

Alright, well after talking to toyotaspeed90 to get some more info, i went to shop that will do swap for me. They said straight forward swaps its 1000 dollars. That includes changing any parts like belts, water pump, ect. ect. that need it. (of course i buy parts). Now i will need front mount intercooler done, performance clutch, flywheel, and if possible upgrade pulley on supercharger. So im looking at 5000 total for everything hopefully. Its all coming down to my parents letting me get loan for it. So if its a go, ill be a 4agze 95 rolla by end of feb.

check the clutch/flywheel/pressure plate that comes with the motor.... the cheapest E series set i have found so far is just an oem set (beck arnley) for $250..... and the discs alone (performance) are well into the $300+ range and somewhat hard to find
