I that the swap, but the tach I got was from a 98 rolla (i think) the rear defogger and left turn signal wires are crossed over and you will need to switch them around (pretty easy), after that it's plug & play all the way.

I think 100% direct swap (without switching the wires) would be from direct year from 98-00 rollas or from 01-02 rollas.

If you need any help you can PM me, CraigW sent me the wire diagrams when i did my switch I can supply them to you if you need them also.

Does mileage remain the same or it changes on 98-02 corollas? What can you do to solve this?

I have a 2000 Corolla so it should be direct plug and play minus the temp sensor. No biggie.

    When converting gauge clusters...

I have a 2000 Corolla my gauge cluster is without tach. When converting to the gauge cluster with tach, is it merely a plug and play deal? What is involved?

There was an issue a while back about 2 lights that were swapped around (T-S & DEF?) afterwards, but I dont know what years they were doing the swap to and from. The 01-02 dashes added white faces I think (to some models) and of course the S is red illumination.

Maybe someone can add what was required to solve the problem. I have the wiring and service info if you need any send a PM and I can get it to you.

Mileage readings change... the mileage is kept in the cluster itself. You just need open up both cluster via some black plastic tabs holding the clear plastic face to the cluster, then just unscrew both ODO parts of each tachs and swap them, this way you'll get your original ODO readings from your new tach.

I have the same temp sensor problem. My Corolla (2001 CE) brings the stock wiring for the temp sensor and the plug is located between the front bumper and the radiator. You could get the sensor from a local toyota dealer which is what i'm planning to do. The "-E" it displays is driving me mad. :p

Anybody knows if the Corolla 2000 CE has pre-installed wiring and plug for the temp sensor, too?

I lucked out with mine... I just bought a black faced cluster w/ tach that was labled '02 off eBay and it was a direct fit, no swapped lights, for $30 shipped. The odometer is about 900 miles ahead of my original... so I am just going to wait it out and swap it out when the mileage is just right. :D It has the outside temp error but I will remedy that in the future.

As far as pre-wiring for the outside temp sensor goes, either way it should not be to difficult to run the extra wires... I am going to check the wire harness that came with my new cluster to see if there is an extra wire or two for the temp.

Nope... the wiring harness has no extra wires. Which leads me to believe that the wiring should be there... at least you should not have to go thru the firewall which would be the worst part.

I would really like to be able to do this conversion so I can get a tach, but has anyone been able to do this without tilt steering. I read Vamp's DIY, but it says to tilt the wheel all the way down to have enough room. I don't have tilt steering. If anyone can help that'd be great.

I did it without tilt wheel... get ready to take apart the whole lower driver side dash and steering column covers and steering wheel... its a good time  It is doable... I put my steering column and wheel back together but the lower dash is still apart because I am lazy...

Man, I just took off the steering colum covers and that's it. No need to remove the steering wheel or anything below that. If you look at it you will see how to twist it to pull it out no problem. (No tilt)
