    first off..... figure out what cylinder it is by getting under the hood..... pull each spark plug wire (and put it back before pulling the next one) and see if the car runs worse.... yes, i do this a lot and it's fine..... if the motor changes tone/smoothness then that plug was firing.... if it doesn't change, that cylinder was having issues....

    next, pull spark plug, lay it over valve cover (near a ground) and see if it sparks... if it doesn't, try a new plug... still no, possibly bad cap (or in newer cases, bad coilpack).... if it sparks a good strong spark, then most likely you have a blown HG and have no compression in the cylinder

    Jeez, service techs at dealerships. Man oh man, do I have stories to last a lifetime.

    You have fun with that one bro.

    Actually, if you find one of the nice ones, you'll be okay. Just avoid the quick talking try to get you out of there quick dealio. And see if the dealership has free bagels and donuts.

    need help fast running on three cylinders

    changed the spark plugs, because of an engine code- cylinder 2 misfire, also a month ago there was a cylinder 3 misfire. after changing my spark plugs the problem is still presisting.

    symptoms....

    burns oil, blueish/white smoke from exhaust, makes a putting noise, very under powered.

    also noticed that it only does this after turning the car off from driving somewhere. it has no problems when starting it up first thing

    Youll have to find out what the compression numbers are to determine if you are running on 3 cylinders. Just have em do a compression test.

    Are you getting spark to all of the plugs?

    hey kiddo, i'm in need of a laugh.<br />
    <br />
    <br />
    take it to the dealer...sometimes, they can fix/diagnose stuff that WE can't. besides, your car SHOULD be under warranty. just take it in, and see what the deal is.

    If you're taking it to the dealer under warranty, why bother asking us? A friend of mine was having issues with his truck only running on five cylinders (V6), and it was a bad plug wire..

    Especially since the dealer guys actually get paid. ;)

    just figured it out, nitrous system, a fuel splice was restricting fuel from the fuel rail thus cutting my engine off and on, but i wonder why this problem just started acting up now? ive had that system installed for 5 months now, man what a day...

    Uhm, Youre an idiot. YOU are the one that came onto this board, and posted up saying that your car was only running on 3 cylinders. CHANGING the spark plugs wouldnt tell you whether or not you were REALLY running on 3 cylinders. You obviously didnt check to see if all of your spark plugs were getting a spark.....its not my fault you dont know too much about cars. <br />
    <br />
    And what have you dont to you corolla that makes it &quot;the fastest corolla theyve ever driven?&quot; And why would you have nitrous installed in your car for five months, and not use it? Youve been waiting on ONE part for 5 whole months?<br />
    <br />
    So you go from thinking the symptoms that your car is having means that you are running on 3 cylinders, to maybe those symptoms mean that you have a bad battery or alternator, and then maybe that your piston rings are bad???? SHEESH.

    i only go to dealership for parts... and generaly i try to have the part number on hand, since the retards don't know what the hell you're talking about 1/2 the time (took one guy 30 minutes to find a single axle output shaft seal for an e51 transmission)

    STFU and find another corolla board then.

    I told you what you had to do....do you know how to check to see if there is spark to your spark plug? If not, then you would have no clue about what to "do".

    Youre taking it to the dealership anyways, so why really ask?

    obviously you didnt, because i already stated that i replaced the plugs...but on that same note i did have them check the cylinder compression, and they said everything is a-okay in that regards

    just got back from dealership, here is the story:
    1. charged me 28.00 to tell me "nothing is wrong"
    2. car stalled out and died in front of dealership, had to be pushed back into service department
    3. was informed warrenty was voided, nitrous oxide
    4. was told my car was the fastest corolla they have ever driven, thats including the XRS :)
    5. car is still being looked at by dealership, waiting for a response

    man i really hope that it isnt something big,

    i think it could be an alternator? the battery light came on when my car stalled out...

    either that maybe its the piston rings...but god i certainly hope not, btw never used my nitrous yet, still waiting for a part

    yo, mine had the same code come up, just on cylinder 3...turns out my fuel injector wire for cylinder 3 isn't getting a signal...i have to have the dealership look at it, but for now, i ghetto rigged it to take the signal off of #2...yeah ghetto, can't wait to get rid of this piece of crap

    i never said it was faster than an xrs the service rep did, so dont put words in my mouth, and dont call me an "idiot" for stating that it wasnt the spark plugs not getting any spark. i already told you that it had nothing to do with the spark plugs, and thats what the service rep told me as well

    as for you "civiceater" (in a xa highly doubtful) you have nothing to say

    sensor

    n : any device that receives a signal or stimulus (as heat or pressure or light or motion etc.) and responds to it in a distinctive manner

    cen·sor (snsr)
    n.

    The hypothetical agent in the unconscious mind that is responsible for suppressing unconscious thoughts and wishes

    the post that you were describing a "SENSOR" in was refering to a physical sensor on a car, not to censor or block something...your an idiot for putting that in your signature

    No, you're the idiot for TWO reasons:<br />
    <br />
    ONE: BEFORE you took it to the service rep, I asked you if you checked to see if ALL of your plugs were receiving spark. You obviously have NO CLUE what the symptoms are of running on 3 cylinders. You just threw that lame ass guess out there. <br />
    <br />
    TWO: You are an idiot for not getting the joke.....nor realizing that the entire SENSOR/CENSOR thing was in reference to this thread: <a href="http://vvti.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7691" target="_blank">http://vvti.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7691</a><br />

    ok i just read the thread from the track forum, your an idiot still, why do you do that do you think its cool to put in your signature what other people say... wow buddy get a life.and for those of you who are lost, like me this was the thread this kid was refering too, seriously you have no life. http://vvti.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7691

    thats just pathetic, i was joking around when i posted that i made it apparent, but you go so far as to writing down what people say in your signature?

    your cool buddy

    i wanna be just as cool as you and drive a Xa and rice it out...im sorry mommy didnt buy you a nicer toy

    thats all im going to say, you got problems you talk to me threw PM, like someone who is civil, instead of tarnishing someones name across the entire board.
