I dunno man, it screams Maxima all the way.. the side profile that is. The CAI is a good touch, but the wood trim doesn't exactly appeal to me. Check out the nav though.. will that be a factory standard feature?

2005 Toyota Avalon is roomier, more powerful


Detroit, Michigan - Scheduled to go on sale in Canada in February, the redesigned 2005 Toyota Avalon was unveiled in Detroit on Monday and will be unveiled at Le Salon International de l'Auto de Montréal this week. Two models will be offered in Canada: the Avalon Touring and the Avalon XLS.

"The 2005 Avalon isn't just significantly more powerful, it's more spacious and provides outstanding smoothness, refined handling, and an unparalleled ride. We think customers will be astonished - and delighted - by the level of luxury, performance and value they will get from their investment."

The redesigned Avalon has a 102 mm (4 inch) longer wheelbase and 25 mm (1 inch) in additional width. An all-new interior includes a sliding armrest and tilt-and-telescopic steering column. Rear passengers also benefit from a flat floor that provides additional legroom, especially for the middle seat passenger. Rear seats now recline up to 10 degrees for more comfort.

Under the hood, the 2005 Avalon is equipped with the most powerful V6 engine offered in a North American Toyota vehicle. The all-new 3.5-litre, 24-valve V6 produces 280 horsepower (more than 33 per cent more horsepower than the previous generation) and 260 lb/ft of torque.

The new engine is equipped with dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) for increased high-speed torque, improved fuel economy, and lower emissions. A dual-stage variable intake manifold optimizes engine breathing and fuel efficiency. Both elements are key contributors to Avalon's power increase.

The 2005 Avalon can accelerate from zero-to-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds while achieving improved fuel efficiency. In addition to being more powerful and more fuel efficient, the Avalon will be certified as a Tier 2 Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEV2). The all-new 3.5 litre V6 engine is mated to a new 5-speed Super ECT (electronically-controlled) automatic transmission.

Cabin noise and vibration were reduced by refining the shape of the A-pillar and side mirrors, and re-positioning the new low profile aerodynamic windshield wipers.

The Touring model provides the sport minded driver with a more firmly tuned, Eurosport suspension with higher coil spring rates complemented with stylish wheels which feature a graphite finish.

The new body structure has been strengthened to help meet the latest side impact standards, which take into account higher-riding vehicles such as SUVs. Standard front seat-mounted side airbags have been redesigned to provide a greater coverage area, and front and rear side-curtain airbags help provide protection in side impacts. The Avalon also features a driver's knee airbag as standard equipment.
