i drive an 04 corolla S. i've already got an intake...but i was just wondering if theres any other options than just an intake.

this question has never been asked before, I'm glad someone brought it up. ::

I wonder if anyone has dyno'd before and after porting there intake manifold to see what the actual gains are. If it is > 5hp I would rip mine off and do it

Hm... I haven't looked around too much on vvti.net, but it would be a good idea to compile texts / pictures to instruct people about these things! I had to ask all these questions when I first got here. Alot of people here seem to get bothered by these "simple" questions. I know we have the DIY page. We need the basics also... I would be willing to help the management on VVTi.net. There are plenty of knowledgable people on here that can contribute.

anyways....

You don't want your engine restricted at the intake or exhaust.
For your exhaust you can get a header wich will decrease restriction.
You would have to follow that all the way back to your muffler to really get any benefit. So you would have to upgrade : header:downpipe:catalytic converter:exhaust pipe:muffler.

Or if you don't have enough cash, upgrade the parts starting from the muffler up... You can get just a muffler, or a full cat-back. Cat-back means from the catalytic converter all the way back to your muffler. This includes the cat, exhaust pipe, and muffler. It wouldn't make sense to get a lager header when your exhaust pipe, cat, and muffler are all restricting stock parts.

On the intake side... You can get a ram air intake. Some people say it gives them more power, but from what I've seen for the 02 corolla it's takes away from your low end torque and gives you marginal HP gains. Your throttlebody can be ported and polished. You can do this with a dremel tool. The welds inside the throttlebody can be large and restrictive to airflow.

You can install a fuel managerment system , Greddy and Apexi are some popular brands. You can tune your air/fuel ratio to get more power. I don't know too much on this subject, I'm still looking into it.

Anyone else have some suggestions for the newb?

Maybe a "Must Read for Noobs" should be established listing basic mods and where to find. They then would have a working understanding of mods, and would theoritically ask better, more precise questions.
