NGK v-power (copper core) plugs.... they generally have a better spark... they are more prone to fouling out, however... $1.99 at any parts schucks/kragen/checker

i would just suggest Autolite wires.... unless you have a much upgraded ignition, the 7mm wireset should do you fine... and since it comes with the cap (and Autolite wires have a lifetime warranty) you never need to buy another cap or wire set again..... also available at schucks/kragen/checker

i run this stuff in both my smallport 4age and my smallport 4agze (except the autolite wires.... kinda hard to find JDM wires in a US market).....

ok, you guys keep spending $10-15 a plug and getting less performance out of your spark plug, i'll stick to my $8 for all 4.......

yea i kno i dont want to go oem, btw wat is schucks/kragen/checker? what about the wires, reliable spark and better looking wires is all i want

NGK aren't oem... denso are..... but don't get anything other than copper if you want performance...... everythign else is just for durability

NGK Iridium plugs CAME OEM in my car. 01 vvti. thats what was in there. And i put the same back in there. The vvti engines have to have iridium. no platinum crap in there.

you know what, i just want some nice wires, ill get stock plugs, i just nice looking wires, ill try nopi since some of you have sugguested that

The two spark plugs that are factory recommended for our cars are.

DENSO (P/N SK16R11)
NGK (P/N IFR5A11)

Ofcourse this is for 2001 corolla so I don't know if it changes thoughout the years bery much.

IFR5A11 is NGK's standard iridium plug. You can still upgrade to NGK's iridium IX with super fine center electrode, and tapered ground electrode...
BKR5EIX for up to 1997. 1998 and up 1ZZ-FE's take BKR5EIX-11.

The older ones don't, though..I have Bosch Platinums in mine..probably going to go with Denso ik20s next time.

why would they need iridium plugs? lol.... you trying to say that a copper plug isn't going to jump the spark that a coilpack will send it? lol the only part that is copper/iridium/platinum whatever is the inner tip of the plug...... if it conduct electricity it'll spark

Iridiums are used in the 1ZZFE Corollas and above due to tightening emissions and longer service intervals. Just like platinum tipped plug - Iridium resist erosion and provide long life. The real reasons for using them are reduced misfires (thin-wire electrode opens up more of the flame kernel - protects cat and reduced CEL in OBD-II systems), longer service life, and lower voltage requirements over life of plug (lower voltage coil packs). You can use other plugs - but Iridiums are better to keep emissions in check.

I read on here that VVTi needs iridium..

i would recommend OEM unless you get some quality plugs. some are actually worse than stock.

No, thicker spark plug wires do not provide more sparking energy!

Wire thickness depends on the insulation and jacket layer of the wire. Sometimes manufacturers have to use a thicker insulation jacket to compensate for inferior/cheaper quality insulation material. NGK’s patented Hyper Silicone jacket, is so superior, that it prevents voltage leak and is both heat and chemically resistant with a far smaller wrapping than is required by other brand of wires with traditional thicker insulation. Because of this, the Power Cable wires can more closely resemble the OE diameter wires, therefore installation does not require the use of different looms and troublesome rerouting. Improved performance with trouble free installation and perfect fit is one of the hallmarks you have come to expect from NGK.

+4's are only for longevity..... for performance they aren't what you want

i would have chosen the iridium plugs.

I did my 90k recently,
For the cap, rotor, and fuel filter i stuck to OEM
Plugs I went with denso IK16 (didn't feel shit - waste of money)
Wires I tried using the MSD but they're not made to OEM specs so I solde them and brought some NGK (OEM eqivalents)

I hope you got the "Bosch Platinum+4". The 4 ground electrode open spark technology is great. They last way longer then the single ground electrode "Bosch Platinum". I logged 200000 Kms with the Platinum+4's on my old Neon (up to 404000 Kms on original modded engine) and only had minor wear on ground electrodes. I actually have 'em now in my 2004 Corolla.
Good choice and price on NGK's nice blue wires, by the way.

if you're going with Iridium then NGK IX Iridium.

Iridium plugs are more resistant to heat erosion and recommended for nitrous and forced induction setups... I'll switch to NGK's iridium IX in a couple years. They work wonders in motorcycles and snowmobiles, as reports of improved performance, fuel mileage and even a change in exhaust sound, as I've experienced, are extremely common.

some people want longevity. you have to keep that in mind.

for the average person the less maintenance the better.
