Dirt gets between the pads and rotors.....and also from the vibration of the pad within the mounts.

Toyota OEM pads are the way to go!

I had a set of OEM pads with original rotors and no disc brake quiet used upon install and they were noisy from day 1.

I currently have new OEM pads, 3rd party rotors and when the pads were installed they left off the stainless steel looking "shims" and applied disc brake quiet. They have been perfectly quiet. ( I still have the shims )

    Why do brakes squeel

Okay I don't understand it and its going to annoy me. I just got new brakes and rotors for my 99 rolla. I've had it for several days and it works great, but when I drove it today coming back from northern VA, I started hearing it squeel on and off. Is that suppose to happen to new brakes? I did not hear it with my old toyota brakes. This new brakes I got was from meineke. Can someone help pretty please? I don't know if I have to take it back or wait a while and see if it either goes away or gets worse.

OEM is the way to go.

Did they re-insert the little plates that go on the pads? They're called "anti-rattle/squeal shims and they cancel out the vibrations that can create squealing.

    Word

For those who don't have the shims, you can buy a paste that is supposed to stop squealing.

Yes they did turn them and I think I saw them put some kind of paste aswell on the brakes. I mean it doesn't happen all the time, just from time to time sometimes really loud, sometimes not that loud. Do I need to take it back to them and get if fixed or should I wait a couple more weeks and see if it progress?

lol is it that dangerous? I have a lifetime warranty on the brake job so I might just take it back to them and have them put more grease in it or something. Maybe if I bug them enough they might buy me oem stuff and replace the brake they put in.

Its Prolly The Pads Man..if You Think They Put Some Type Of Lube. Then Yea Its The Pads Itself. Try This....put A Slight I Mean A Slight Of White Lithuim Grease On The Pads. Its Should Go Away. When I Say Slight.. I Mean Very Little.

    Thanks bud!

You mean on the backs of the pads, right?

Also, Winzer makes a product called "stop squeal." You spray it directly on the face of the rotor and its supposed to stop brakes from squealing. So far its worked really well on the 9-3 Sport Sedan.

Wurth Brake Quiet and Winzer Stop Squeal should be found at european car dealerships in the parts department.

that's normal. At my work, I like to file/sand down brake pad's edges so it doesn't needlessly rub up against anything. so.. less squeaks.

but yeah. it's probably normal. If you're worried then just take it back to the place that worked on them, and they should inspect it for you WITHOUT charge. Perchance, if they are defective, they should replace them for free. :)
