Get the tC , but only get it in a 5 speed, my rolla outran a auto from a dead stop to 80ish mph. Ofcourse it was my g/f driving and she sucks at reaction times. I've driven it alot and what I do like about it is the damn torque it has and can get to speed really quickly. The tC is a world of differance compared to the xB.

I was going to drive one last time I was at a dealer but a celica gt-s caught my eye instead. Sounds like a good car to me but I'd say go with the manual transmission. Personally I don't like the styling but its a hell of a deal for the money. I don't really know what your budget is though so its up to you. There is a couple other people on vvti that have tc's

Scion tC uses a chain like most of the newer Toyota engines. Auto/stick - depends on where you drive and how your commute is. I gave up a stick to go with an auto - all because of traffic in the area. Stick is great for performance and better "feel" for the car and control - but a major pain in the ass if you drive bumper to bumper traffic over a 40 mile stretch for sometimes 2 hours. If your new at stick - don't worry - these transmission are almost shift themselves, real easy to learn. I agree with the blind spot - my older CRX was the same way. You get used to it - but still bothers me a bit. Check with your insurance - for me, the Scion would have cost more to insure (bigger engine, two doors). Gas mileage will hurt a bit - but it is a trade off for the added performance and size. Overall - if you take the plung - I feel that the Scion tC is the best bang for the buck in the Toyota line.

    Good Luck.

i test drove an Xb and a tC today!

ok, a couple of days ago i test drove a scion Xa stick and auto. the auto wasn't too impressive but i was happy with the stick. then, yesterday i test drove a stick 05 corolla le..it didn't wow me all that much. it was pretty nice, engine wise, but nothing really shot out at me to impress me with the car. iguess because it was an le

today, i test drove an Xb. it was an automatic...well, simply put, that thing has no balls at all! i was going about 25mph and i floored it...all it did was rev a whole bunch and slowly start to pickup some speed...it was a joke. my broke ass corolla at least throws your head back if you floor it at 25. although, i could spin the tires when i took off the traction control and was on wet pavement. it felt too big, even though it's about the same length as an Xa, it's 5 inches wider too. it had a wierd glovebox area that was just void space, my friend said it was for burritos. the cieling was so high it made you feel small. it was a little bumpy too. i guess if i had a family to haul around, it would be perfect...but this this was not worth my money.

so, then i was looking forward to the tC...the guy told me, this car is nothing like the Xa or Xb at all...he was right. it has everything in it, even a tire pressure sensor. did anyone see that sunroof with a moonroof too?? thats nuts. i tried the auto because there was lots of traffic and i didn't want to worry about stalling (i'm newer at stick) so, i started off slow, they had just got this thing about an hour before and hadn't even checked it over yet, it still had plastic all around. so i drove to a park area and i let it rip at 25, just like the Xb...this thing shot my head back, i wasn't prepared for that at all. i showed off to some kids when i spun the tires for a couple of seconds when i pulled out of the park. this thing had some balls...and it wasn't bad for an auto, it makes me second guess to buy a stick, that might get me in trouble with all the power on hand.

so, heres what i like and dislike about the tC
    likes:
awesome styling and it comes with 17" 6 spoke wheels.
    tons of sweet ass power
amazing sunroof and moonroof and they both have covers
only scion with cruise control and an armrest
keyless entry is standard and transponder keys, unlike for an Xa
you sit nice and low, like in my corolla
everything is aluminum, even the buttons
    cool gauges
    panel cover for cd player
    auto off headlights
    turn signals in mirrors
    knee airbag
    auto down and up! windows
seats are pretty comfy and have alot of great controls for lumbar and whatnot
hatchback opens up to whole car, not just a trunk
    it
includes a hatch tonnue (sp?) cover to hide goodies
    tire pressure sensor
    awesome digital climate control
it has a thing that automatically changes the seat to a preset position when you enter
keyless entry is on the key
camry engine with is300 suspension (or at least thats what the guy said)
abs, traction control power mirrors, a/c, and all that good stuff

    dislikes:
i don't know wether i want stick or auto
brakes seemed like they needed a little more effort than the xb and xa (maybe low fluid, they never checked it yet)
it's a little more than what i want to spend
blindspots...yeah, can't do much about that, in the back mainly
gas mileage is not great at all...21 in the city with an auto?
horn cover on streering wheel felt cheap
shifter on an auto had that wierd cutout that the mazda3 has, where you have to go through a maze to get to drive gear and the shifter was a little stubby and cheap compared to the rest of the car
i'm not sure if i really want a two door
i couldn't figure out how to turn off the traction control
no floormats...how is that not standard and moonroof is?
i heard the paint is cheap on scions all together
driver's seatbelt is mounted far back
i heard it uses a timing belt instead of a chain

so, i really have fallen in love with that car after just one test drive...and if i put down $5000, i could get it for $240 a month for 60 months...i can deal with that, i would rather be driving this in 5 years instead of an Xa
i don't think anyone has a tC on here, i can still be on this board if i get one right?
let me know what you guys have to think or if you have ever driven one

the blind spot your talking about is becuase your not use to driving a hatchback. I never really got use to driving a hatch untill couple months. I was use to the huge window that the coupes provide.

yah the blind spot is nasty but I guess you get used to it... The tC is bitchen... u can get a Weapon R intake that dyno'd at 12.5 whp, several different headers are almost complete, exhaust system.. or hell.. why not get the Scion Speed turbo when its done to put you at just under 300 whp :) I'd say get the 5 spd if you plan to fix up the engine.. you'll thank yourself later.. if you're just buying it to putt around as a daily driver, get the auto..

as for the guys that currently have a tC...does it have enough power to spin the tires on drive pavement with an automatic? just wondering, it was a little wet out yesterday, so traction was a little less than usual

I have only driven the 5 spd.. but seeing how the torque is so high.. i would imagine you could.. but then again.. that would be a bad thing.. :)

ha, i want a 5 speed, but i do have to deal with stop and go traffic alot and stopping on hills. i think a 5 speed would get me in trouble...too much fun!

Once you're comfortable with the transmission/clutch, traffic and hills aren't problems..I don't even think about it anymore, and I have an ACT clutch and aluminum flywheel.

from my knowledge, the tC's don't have seat settings. you gotta do that all on your own. The only option that came with the car was the side airbags. That car was not originally for me. a deal fell thru and I was the next one on the list..so they offered me the tC. the only thing I would of gotten would have been the ground effects. everyone says that the strut bar is not worth having, the bazooka box is not worth having (altho some say it sounds good), the cathode lighting is okay...now the intake isn't out yet by AEM supposedly, however they do have other spots that sell intakes. and the TRD muffler..well i heard mixed reviews on that. some say its just perfect, others have sold it only after a week of having it. you just gotta look around and see what people say. if you want more reviews on the tC, you can visit:

    www.clubtcforums.com
    www.clubsciontc.com
    www.newscion.org

you'll find threads about owners reviews on alot of things. you just gotta look for them.

I love my tC. But I will agree that the paint job is kinda crappy (I'm starting to see certain spots). other then that its great! Personally, the gas mileage on that thing is good. It was just like the corolla, IMO. I have an auto and I still love the power. My first race was against a VW GTI and we were neck in neck until his turbo kicked in..lol. then he only won by a car length.

As far as spinning the tires, its possible with the stock tires but the stock tires SUCK ASS! they have no grip what so ever. I've burned out coming out of parking lots, driveways, etc. I think before I even go and mod anything, I want to get stickier tires. and if it snows alot by you, I've been reading where people say the tc sucks ass in the snow cause of the tires.

and what tc did u test drive that had preset seat settings and traction controls that you can control urself? lol.

well, as far as the traction control goes, i thought it had it, because the xB did, but it turns out that the tC doesn't have traction control, no biggie.

i couldn't figure out the seat settings in the time i had with the car, the seat seems to have an infinite amount of adjustments which is really sweet. i remember reading somewhere that it can save a preset for a driver so it will move into place for you or something, not sure which button does that...
so, the auto is still pretty sweet then? any options you got on your tC? any options you would recommend, besides better tires?
