Just installed Infinity components...

I had 6.5" Kappa 2-ways in the doors, but the tweeter blew on one of them. And so, after deciding that another $200 to the credit card wasn't much compared to what's already on there, I bought a set of the reference 6.5" components and installed them today.

WHAT a difference. I actually have some front image now. I have Kappa 6x9" 2-ways in the rear and the tweeters on them just about split glass so consequently, that's all I could hear in my car (until I just disconnected the tweeters).

Anyhow - I'm happy. Soon, the Jensen amps are going bye-bye for some Infinity amps. I have my heart set on the Infinity 7520A (283W RMS in bridge mode @ 4ohm) for my 12" reference sub. Not sure what I'll use to power the cabin speakers though. Thoughts??

Cool! I just placed an order 2 days ago for 4 Infinity Kappa 3 ways for the front and rear. I can't wait for them to get here because the stock speakers in my car just piss me off :)

Agreed. I've never heard the 3-ways before. The only thing about having 2 or 3-way speakers in the rear is that it messes up the sound staging. You end up hearing all the highs coming from behind you which sounds....not good, IMHO.

I'm thinking about getting a dremel, should I get the dremel brand or are the cheapo ones on ebay just as good? I was leaning towards the multipro 395 what do you guys think.
    PS. sorry for thread jacking

I had the 2 way kappas in the front and the three way kappas in the rear. I liked them a lot. I was using an alpine MRV-F340 to power the suckers up and that is one good amp! If you can pick up an alpine 4 way amp for your speakers I would recommend that.

I have rockford fosgate 3 ways in the back and Boston Acoustics 4" 2 ways in the front and although the Bostons can handle more power than the Fosgates, the highs from the back are stronger than the highs from the front, which doesn't sound right.

I'd suggest getting some components for the front like CorollaULEV did and stick to 2 ways in the back for a better sound stage.

are these shallow enough to fit in the door panels without the window hitting it? or do you have to use some special mount?

You have to use a special mount to fit the front door, and even in the rear deck you have to make the hole bigger for them to fit. In all they are a very hard fit on the 98-02.
This is the front speaker in the door:

I used the 3 way kappa spacers to fit the front ones in.

This is the rear:
Notice how I had to bend the hole out in order for the speaker case to fit. I did not do a very clean job, but it worked. My friend actually cut it out with a dremel, and it came out cleaner. Anyway keep this in mind when trying to install these speakers.
I'll let you know when I get them :) If they are too deep I'll just use a spacer and mod the door pannel.

For all 03+ owners...a little warning....

What destroyed the tweeter in my passenger side 6.5 2-way Kappa....the door panel was hitting it (both of them actually). I DID have a set and they both crapped out. Whereas they were fine, when I got them replaced, Infinity changed the design and the tweeter extends further out. The tweeter dome was actually crushed in a bit, which is ultimately what destroyed it. Don't have to worry about that with components.
