What gauge wire in our cars?

Hey what is the wire used mostly in our cars like for the electrical system in the dash? Looks like 16 or 14 to me does anyone know? I wanna do some LED's wondering what to use

All different sizes used mostly 16-22 awg or so to save $$.

Most LED setups dont draw very much current, (unless they are HUGE !)

you'd be fine with a 16~18 awg big enough that you can run multiple LED's without worrying, but still small enough to fit anywhere...

is the stranded wire better than the non-stranded? I actually hooked up the LED's already with the non-stranded but there are so many problems with it all ready I'm doing it all again. Namely the wires are barely long enough, some of the shit already came apart etc. I'll post pics of the thing im doing once I'm done.

Stranded is best (more flexible) You should also fuse all connections near voltage source and solder connections.

I'm connecting stuff to the power/ground wires that go to the cig lighter. (from the inside) I figured there is already a fuse for that so I didn't add another fuse and all I'm running is LED's. Think I should?
I shouldn't be asking these questions I'm a 4th year electrical engineering student! I can design an transistor level amplifer and shit but I'm asking about fuses and wires haha
