    Need some opinions!

Hey Guys... Car was totalled about a month ago so I've been looking around for a new one... I'm confused as to which car I should get.... My past 2 cars have been corollas so i have a thing for them. I've been looking at the new mazda 3's more specifically the GT model with the GFX package.... In terms of price the Mazda cost 2000 more, but it's more powerful, leather seats and so on...

What do you guys think of the Mazda? Or should I stick with the corolla..

    Thanks

Go test drive it and see what you think. I was going to buy a Scoobiedo STI after test driving but then talked myself out of it because I have too much time and effort into my corolla to make it unique and I dont want to start over on a new car even if it is 300hp :)

The Mazda 3 drive's really nice, go test drive, only way to know for sure which car you'll like more, Mazda's are usually fairly reliable (not as erliable as Toyota though, but still fairly reliable), so they are not a bad choice...

I did drive it and it is really nice. I find it's more "sport" oriented than the corolla. The only 2005 corolla that I drove was the demo that felt like it was beaten the shit out of, so it didn't feel right!

I may just go ahead and try something different! It's just that I know the corollas like the back of my hand, and it's going to be tough starting from scratch! "change is always tough" :)

Yeah, Toyota us unmached in reliability IMO. My family has been driving Toyota's since the late 70's and we had a 1979 and 1981 Cellica that are still running today with 290k+ miles on both of them. Toyota is fantastic for reliability.

Toyota's are great...my family has had a 1981 Celica, 1985 Celica, all were greats cars. We now have a 1997 Corolla with about 200,000 km, and a 2003 Camry SE. I previously owned a 1993 Celica GTS and sold it with 330,000 km to buy my XRS. If reliability is important that stick with a Toyota or Honda...a Mazda will never compare partly due to the fact that its a Ford at heart.

Supposedly the Mazda 3 has the same chassis as the new european Focus (which OWNS the US model in every aspect). They handle well and look decent. If it wasn't for the Ford influence in engineering, I would consider one.

A also agree with MarkXRS... Always have, always will buy Toyota.

    Thanks guys,

I did some research and the Mazda 3 (2.3 litre) is still built in Japan and shares the same Chasis with the European focus (which is completely different than the US) and the volvo S40. The Mazda 6 are assembled in Mexico....

I just need to give it some more thought, although I'm leaning more toward the corolla... It's a big purchase either way, so I'm just going to take my time...

-tC is not available in Canada, nor I don't think it ever will be unless they replace it with the celica (which I doubt), so I won't hold my breath.

    Thanks again.

go look at a scion tC or XRS corolla... both better cars in my opinion...although the mazda 3 is nice. personally, i'd buy a used V6 mazda 6 for the money...that duratec motor is smooth and sweet.

If fuel economy and $$$ is important, Corolla CE.
    Else, Mazda 3.

I'm not exactly impressed with needing multiple repairs immediately upon delivery of my rolla. Makes me wonder if Toyota's reliability has gone downhill given other reliability nightmares my dad relayed from his coworkers to me.

Like everybody else says. Reliability vs. performance. Corolla will last longer and most definitely have a better resale value in the long run. Save a lot of $$$ for repairs and is more economical. My moms 83 toyota corolla was over 20 yrs old and still running strong. My coworkers brand new 2004 G35 sedan's transmission F*cked up during the second week of ownership. I think I'd stick with a reputable maker.

go for the XRS... but i do admit, i like the mazda 3, i don't really care if ford owns mazda now... still, mazda holds its own... eventhough ford owns mazda, those engines are mazdas... alot of em ford vehicles use mazda engines like the escape and all...

    just an update....

I got the Mazda 3 sedan GT... going to take about 6-8 weeks, and I'm already running out of patience. Price was comparable to the corolla, but in terms of standard features, this car has a lot more.

I haven't really "contributed" to this forum compared to other members, but I'll still be back every now and then reading up...

    Lates!

Mazda is actually pretty good. My mazda has almost 190k and I have beaten the ever living shit out of it and its still running strong.
