HM... well if you report it and there is ANY damage to the frame (which it sounds like it is), they'll fix your car, jack up your insurance, and throw the salvage sticker in your face. Either way, you can usually get more parting it out, than selling it as salvage. Salvage is usually half of sticker price, and from the things you listed, your car isn't that bad.

But the crappy part is just finding the demand for you to part it out. I myself would just sell it as salvage because I'd be too lazy to part the whole thing out. But if you want to make as much money as you can, I'm pretty sure parting it out would be a better option. It really depends on your need of quick cash or your need of more work for more money.

just got into an accident and need suggestions

Damnit...well, looks like i'm back at the vvti forums, but not to read up on possible upgrades to my 1997 corolla, but to ask for help because i fucked up my car.

Basically, the hood is pushed in and bent up, the right headlight housing is cracked, and the right side fender is dented on the front. All the engine parts seem to be working fine...i managed to drive it home from the accident (which luckily occured between me and a friend and her car didn't suffer any damage whatsoever...lucky SUV's). The fan seems fine and the radiator seems fine (just a bit pushed back). From what I can see, that's all there is to the damages.

My question is would it be better to part it out or to sell it as a salvage car on ebay. The car has 130,000 miles, so it's not exactly the most desired car. I'm going to end up paying my dad the full blue book price, but i want to make as much possible in return, because i'm already really really low on money. As in I have around $10...or less.

Thanks for the help in advance

Do you have any parts worth parting out, or are you 100% stock?

If you start parting it out and you can't sell everything, you'd make alot less than if you just sold the car whole.

it's 100% stock. I have rockford fosgate speakers and a pioneer deck in there which i'm gonna replace with the stock sound system so that i can sell that shit on ebay. otherwise, everything is stock. i have a pair of stock corner lights, cuz i replaced them with clear corners, and my clear corners got messed up. i dunno, some people might want the 97 trunk center piece instead of the grey or orange and red one.
there shouldn't be any frame problems because the frame didn't even touch the other car, only the hood.

oh, and i'm 18 about to turn 19, so insurance would kill me if we report it to insurance (but it looks like my parents might want to do that).

Yeah I think you'd probably get more if you sold it whole, b/c I don't think you're gonig to be able to part out the whole thing. Quickly, at least.

I'd be willing to trade you my gray center piece + a little cash for your red/clear one though.

i'd gladly trade my orange/red tail lights for your clear/red lights and some cash (and i'd pay shipping) if you'd like...

well, it looks like i'm reporting it as a total loss, so the car is going. i'll see if i can get the center piece off before the car dissapears though.
