put a piece of tape on the bare shifter button, it should make the shift knob be able to push against the shifter to shift.

oh and Rolla02, what do you mean by free standing? like leave it loose and just push it down to shift?

I have mine working just fine, just play around with it, its easy enough to do, you just have to get it at the right height, make sure you take all of the old shift stuff off, including the green plastic peice and the spring, so its just a bare metal bar, then have it in park, and put the shift knob on so the metal peice pushes the button up, then put the screws in and you should be good to go.

You cant just tape the metal peice down, as you wont be able to take the key out of the ignition if you do, the bar has to be up for the key to come out of the ignition

i had that same problem with a very similar shift knob... the button is just not long enough to eighter push the mtal rod all the way down or let it loose all the way up. Get another shifter, you could use that one on your e-brake.

i think i might have to go with Fox's advice. chr12is, i see what u are trying to say, but i messed with it for like an hour, and i cant get it at a right height, simply because it seems impossible for the button to push the shifter down enough to shift gears.

thanks for the picture, but something tells me that still wont work. because no matter how long you make the "shim" or whatever, the button will still be pushing the shifter down in the same length. The button is restricted, therefore, i need to try and make the button be able to descend more.

I got the rs-type shift knob and works perfect. If you don't care about not being able to put the stock shifter back on I cut the outer and inner metal parts to make it look shorter. Maybe if you cut the outer part enough you'll have enough space for the inner part to move.;)
