Brake pad question...

I have a friend that needs new breaks and he wants to know the difference between kevlar, ceramic, organic, and regular metalic brake pads. Would help alot if you guys can tell me also which ones are better for the car and the differences about the pads. Thanks in advance.

I bought Bendix last time..haven't put them in yet, but we'll see what happens.

I was looking at EBC Greenstuff pads, but I didn't want to spend 80 bucks on them..

I bought Brembo blanks for $33-ish apiece at www.autobarn.com -- they dropship, though..so no tracking # :(

If he plans on buying rotors, he may want to check them out. :)

drilling sure is more of a bling factor than anything else.

i think endless, pagid, and ferodo makes an agressive street pad that can handle some track/atuox time

i have EBC Greenstuff in the fronts. i like them. the require almost no warm up and they combat against fade. their response is good and overall is a good street pad. i have yet to test them at the canyons, though. from the site: "The EBC Greenstuff pads feature a high Kevlar content formulation resulting in ultra high performance pads that are extremely kind to brake rotors."

they say "ceramic" pads are a tougher material for cross drilled and slotted rotors so they don't get torn up. they are supposed to be for stoping from higher speeds so they resist fade the best i believe. i have a set but they require to be heated up before they start working. it was quite dangerous in the morning when you needed to stop fast.

give more information.

what car?
what driving style? all street?
how much $$ he want to spend?

honestly, street applications, just pick up some AXXIS ultimates or metalmasters. .

all that other crap is a waste of money if you don't race your car (and i'm not talking about drag racing)

well he has a 93 acura legend coupe. It's his daily driver, but he races it once in a while to the tracks and street which I think is dumb. But he just wants to know the best brake pads to buy and he is thinking of the Axxis what Civiceater suggest.

Thanks for your input guys. They've been a big help for my friend. I got a final question to ask of you guys. He wants to know which would he get the most performance and reliability out of these three types of rotors... drilled/slotted, slotted, or just regular oem ones.
Oh and he decided on the Axxis ceramic pads.

I know endless makes a pad for corolla. I'm rollin HAWK HP Plus, its a good pad for the money and SCCA seem to recommend it.

And I dont really feel like wasting my time on explaining why cross drilled AND slotted is a bad idea sine nobody listens anyways, so i'll leave it at that.

WHAT??!?!?!

If you knew what brake fade was, youd realize how funny that quote is.

Tell him to get plain faced rotors...cross drilled/slotted are mostly for show. Many people will debate that, and Ive actually changed my own opinion over time about rotors.

HAWK HP Plus are the bomb. Thats what I'm running. Also don't bother will drilled rotors just get slotted ones but make sure that the slots are cut correctly or they will rape your pads. I recommend PowerSlot Rotors. They cost morem oney but there cut is correct and won't demolish your pads.

If dude just has to have something other than stock, I'd go with slotted. The cross-drilled crack pretty easily, from what I've heard. Neither CD or slotting helps braking - it really is for show, but whatev.

As far as pad material. Organic is basically condensed cardboard - sucks and fades easily. Semi-metalic is probably the best ALL-AROUND, aside from carbon, which is simply semi-metallic with carbon added (better). Metallic is great for high-speed driving, but these pads don't really work very well at cool temperatures, which is no good for regular driving and they eat rotors. Same deal with ceramic - I would never have these on a street car...plus they eat rotors too. I'd go with semi-metallic, preferrably carbon.
